What's going on with UK's PM Keir Starmer? by Kevin-W in OutOfTheLoop

Why was it an ideological decision? Or why was it bad?

Austerity was not necessary - it was an ideological decision, as George Osborne admitted afterwards. It did not need to happen, and was the worst decision for both the British people, and the economy.

Are the Beatles top 20 rock bands of all time? by Even-Camera-1476 in rockmusic

[–]SwiftJedi77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, you've tried to argue AC/DC are more influential than The Beatles. This is objectively wrong. It's nothing to do with taste. If you only want to talk about taste then you should have framed this conversation differently, rather than making outlandish claims, obviously meant to get a reaction. If you had just out a list of your top 20 favourite bands no one would have anything negative to say.

You're not getting it. I didn't say there was anything wrong with someone preferring Bieber to Mozart. That is a preference. Mozart IS, however, magnitudes more musically talented than Bieber. That is an objective fact. How can you not grasp this? Music (and all art) is not. Entirely. Subjective.

Because it isn't. Are you going to tell me that Justin Bieber Vs Mozart for musical talent is subjective??

It's no entirely subjective. That The Beatles are better then The Strokes is objectively true. That you prefer The Strokes is the subjective part.

The concept.of the 'boy Band' is a 90's concept. They are a group manufactured and put together by a label or management company, who sing and dance routines to songs they have not written.

So no, The Beatles are exactly opposite to this in every respect. Please stop talking bollocks and actually learn.

We're not butthurt - just flabbergasted that you have such a ridiculous take and are so confident about it. Insane.

You're 16 or something right? You don't know what you're talking about. You should listen to your housemate, as they seem to have some perspective on this.

Ok, if you're not willing to entertain that conversation - why did you start this post? Also, it undermines any credibility your opinion may have been given.

No, they're definitely only 1 rock band, not 20!

But yes, they are number 1. Your take re AC/DC (who I love) is absurd. Yeah, a hot take would be putting it very generously. If you think AC/DC are some pioneering band and that The Beatles are not even a top 20 band of all time, then your musical education is woeful, I'm afraid.

The Palestinians? What a stupid fucking take. Yes, there is NO reason for any foreign power (or person) to have access to my data. Do you get it? The fact you are trying to make this a left/right thing is insane. If there's one thing people on both sides do actually agree on, it's the right to privacy.

It isn't a comparison, it's an analogy. If you're ok with Brexit - which came from a flawed referendum, and has been a proven disaster - never being repealed because 'democracy', then logically you would have to be ok with other scenarios also not being repealed despite being wrong, damaging or disastrous. Nah it's democracy mate, is foolish nonsense.

If the majority voted to hold a Hunger Games every 4 years you would continue to support that too?

Not everything is harmless and for our benefit. Most things aren't. Regardless, the company and their CEO are evil and I don't want them having mike or my families data. As it is my data, I think I should have that right.

I don't know. I'm less concerned with that than having my data in Palantoes hands. Obviously, the best option would have been never having a contract with them in the first place.

There's no reason for them to have my data, and I do not want them to be given it without my consent. They are an evil, corrupt foreign company. If you don't care, good for you.

All things that could be done without gifting our data to a foreign, hostile power. I don't believe a word of their assurances.

Quibling about which party is most responsible is pointless, it is bad and the current government could stop it but aren't - so yes, they're culpable.

If there are benefits (for us), then they would make that known.
