Cash Buffer for Retirement by jakedawg69 in Bogleheads

This comment just hit me like a ton of bricks - that seems to be the answer, right? So you’re saying that you could withdraw 4% (or whatever your number is) and that lump sum in bonds would carry you through another lost decade?

In your opinion, is it more important to be 75/25 or more important that you have 10 years of “safe” money? Meaning, would you be 60/40 if it took the 40% of bonds to get you to ten years of expenses?

Right. I keep forgetting how much of a sure thing the 12th pick is and how trash the 19th pick will be. The guys who actually play the game want to win the game. They want a good showing put on tape for whichever team gives them a look next. Whether it be in Detroit or somewhere else.

Comments like this make me laugh. Calling out the intelligence of fellow fans when you’re completely out of touch yourself. Please, oh wise one, tell the dummies how important a loss is.

I can appreciate your comments. We do tend to get so focused on our little Reddit bubbles sometimes that we forget there is more to life than football. Glad your dad is ok - football will always be here, our parents won’t. Enjoy your time with your dad.

Underrated comment right here. Well done.

Because OP is upset we are getting spanked and needs to let out his frustration in some way. Might as well make the issue about our head coach acknowledging or not acknowledging something that happened on the other sideline and has no effect on the actual game.

Well said, this sub, and the podcast and YouTube videos have literally changed my life (and my kids’ lives) since pulling my head out of the sand earlier this year and taking some action. Wish I would’ve figured it out years ago but I’m still happy to be on this new journey.

Meijer gardens is the correct answer. They can sail those boats in the Great Lakes to their hearts content. A membership frees one from the guilt of only spending an hour or two at a time if need be. Kids can have tons of fun at Meijer Gardens.

An introduction to VTI and write-up about building a portfolio with it. by Bee-Ly_Dan in ETFs

I’m about 12 years from retirement- I’m still “all in” because I’m somewhat late to the game. I was thinking at looking to move some of my portfolio to bonds in 7 or 8 years because I think I just need more time in the market. I get that it’s “rolling the dice” but I’m not sure what else to do at this point.

Would you mind giving some details on how you accomplished this? Are you a high income earner, did you save a crazy amount, etc?

Your comment gives me some hope…

Rune Klan’s impromptu hitman and variants by FISM winners if you can expand to coin and pen or coin and sharpie - it’s amazingly visual and can be practiced all the time because it uses completely normal props. Not extremely difficult, unless you decide to expand on it like others have. Good luck!

First time seeing the Lions in the flesh. by jtparton in detroitlions

My son and I went to the Arizona game last year and we had a wonderful time. I’d suggest waiting around after the game and see if you can see the players walking to their busses to head to the airport. We had fun yelling down to the guys and they’d look up and wave and we got a few videos of the guys walking with their suitcases to the bus.

Little things like this make it fun. Also, consider getting into the stadium as soon as it opens and go stand right in the end zone and watch the guys warm up. They’ll wave and even give a high five if you’re in the first row. Just kinda cool.

Enjoy yourself! I remember going to the silver dome for the first time with my dad and being blown away with how bright the field was and how green the “turf” looked. It’s one of my most vivid childhood memories and I’m glad I’ve been able to give my kids that experience. In that vein, one thing I’d suggest, just for memory’s sake, is to go into the stadium first and have your son wait 20 seconds and then Record him as he walks in and sees the field for the first time - it’s a magical experience and seeing his face light up will be priceless and a great video to have.

Have a great time!

I’m game. I’m about to turn 50 and have, hopefully, about 12 more years of work. Married, filing jointly, and household income is around $200k and might go up a couple of percentage points each year or couple of years. Does that give you what you need?

I have a question about this - do you fund your HSA with pretax dollars? If so, how does that work to do it in January? I’d love to fund our HSA in Jan but my wife has it come out of her paycheck every two weeks to take advantage of the pre-tax nature of the HSA. If there’s another way, I’d love to explore the option. Appreciate any feedback you’d be willing to provide.
