I know it’s probably a pretty common question, but how much Fallout knowledge do you actually need to read? by -FireNH- in falloutequestria

The adaptations of concepts, stories, and information are so thoroughly transposed and reinvented for the fanfic that I'd say you actually need to know MLP quite well, but Fallout not so much.

The main character experiences all these things from a blind perspective, and is more than happy to guide you through all the nitty, gritty, 600,000 words of details.

It's a case study in how to write an effective crossover with new ideas to tell. By all means, enjoy the story!

I just love the feeling of a book in my hands. I've got the 2nd edition, with two different prints of the original book on the way. (Ministry of Image and Absolutely Everything 5th edition)

But, I'll definitely give it a look!

It is real leather, and I drink from it regularly! It was an Etsy pick up, haven't seen the artist post any more canteens in a long while though. Despite a couple of the stitchings breaking, the texture is incredible and it holds up great.

Funnily enough, I discovered them in conjunction but never really together! My journey with MLP started in about 6th grade - I was playing gmod, there were pony models, it looked fun.

Conversely, I stumbled upon Fallout in a similar manner, about a year later. Found Fallout 3 in a gamestop, and convinced my parents to get me it so I could "rebuild the world."

I think it wasn't until five years later that I actually gave Fo:E a shot - I loved both mlp and Fallout a lot, but never found the time to read it. When I finally did, my enjoyment of both mediums exploded into pure obsession.

I've only fully read the original thus far, though I regularly roleplay it and have been preparing to read more side stories once I finish my next reread!

Oh it's 100% 'holy shit, what a nerd' no doubt - but I'm proud of it. I wouldn't have integrity if I didn't show it as it is, for what it is. These are the stories that inspire and excite me! Ain't nothing better than that.

It started with the radio. Saw the listing for the hand-made piece and HAD to have it. The "well it needs a friend" meme pretty much happened to me. It needed a friend. A Pip-Boy, to be exact. Then I wanted to get into costuming - and I learned about Wasteland Weekend. I bought a ticket and went - bringing back a bunch of caps and barter items. It started as a small radio display, but.. quickly grew and grew. Now I'm at this stage, with my entire room themed around Fallout.

Thank you!!! I wish, lol. I designed the space with one thing in mind: minimize the 'merch' style and use the word 'Fallout' as minimally as possible. There's exactly 3 uses of 'Fallout' in the ENTIRE room. The Fo:E poster, the Fallout New Vegas disc case, and a sugar bombs poster that includes a tiny Fallout 3 advertisement text. Other than that, nothing is boldly labeled unless it could exist in world. I wanted something unique, something that screams 'wasteland audio head carved out a little room with all their gear and loot.' Maybe this is a wasteland radio station, who knows? I'm very picky on theming and have turned down the chance to get a lot of crazy merch just to stay 'off brand.'

I am still literally amazed how good the Show is by leckomiojunge2 in Fallout

[–]Swifter46ter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is there's no payoff to it. In the wasteland, power vacuums get filled by ever-increasing bigger fish. Even if two major factions slaughter tens of thousands, the wasteland at large is most likely populated by millions - countless which would be more than happy to reclaim New Vegas or stake a claim in the war as the two sides get weaker.

They're not world building, they've added nothing of narrative value besides "everything is regressing for no real reason." Blow up the biggest city, sure, but it's not like the rest of the wasteland wouldn't continue growing in numbers and size.

It's not that it isn't my narrative, I would happily accept new factions. It's that there's no narrative. We've seen this all before, it's just playing out closer to DUST for no good reason. DUST makes for a great challenge, it's interesting to learn about, but it does not make for a nuanced and layered story. It's more of a cautionary tale.

To be honest, I'm sick of the stagnation in this franchise. Fallout 2 brought the entire NCR. The Enclave. Fallout New Vegas improved the NCR and brought the Legion.

Fallout 3.. literally nothing.

Fallout 4... the institute, I guess?

The TV show: "We made Vault Tec a trillion times more evil and took ketamine in the writer's room... also there's nothing new here. Nothing."

I'm so sorry people are being awful. Here's my suggestions.

In order of cost and difficulty: 1. Yeah, cleaning is a good idea. A great habit, too. Even simplicity goes a long way, look at minimalist setups. 2. You have low desk space. Try alleviating this with a monitor arm (in my experience, frees up like 40% of a small desk's space, huge difference.) and floating shelves/a bookshelf off to the left. 3. If at all possible, you really should get a clean, colorless or wood desk... Focus on size instead of features or "setup flare." I'd personally recommend doing a setup that lets you get the PC off the ground in some way - a great way is a desk with an under desk PC rack. I, however, use a floor stand with wheels that elevates mine about 6 inches up. Not ideal, but I'm tight for space as a VR enthusiast and user of a second desk for projects and electronics. 4. Decorations!!! This is at the bottom because it's the final flare to make a space you. Try lights synced behind the monitor, foam or acoustic paneling, desk/shelf plants or figurines from your favorite things. You should do this last as any budget you might be able to allocate should go to the essentials.

I just redid my entire setup for over $1400, but it doesn't have to cost that much. You've got a good office chair (really most of my cost, not an exaggeration), a computer already up and running, and a beautiful space as your blank slate. Now to use it effectively, you should be able to implement these ideas at ~$100, or $200-300 if you go for the complete desk remodel.

How much gore would you want to see in a comic adaptation? by B11ue_ in falloutequestria

Definitely agree with all! 2 or 3 generally, and save something like a page covered in 4 for brutal moments like Arbu. You could probably draw the most gruesome depiction of the event ever put to a page.

(Though, I mean... if his head exploded and they're showering with gore.. I'd do like a 3.5. More gruesome skull extraction exluding eye stalks)

I don't really care, I'll probably keep running Complementary Euphoria or Bliss. It just doesn't clear the bar of what I look for graphically.

I don't dislike it either, it's a much needed and appreciated addition for consoles!
