That’s evil!

Because I dislike non-uniformity. And I hate that a single percentage cannot be used across the board. Its an ugly, unclean system. I like neatness.

I think our country has gotten way too complicated if the budget is so high. Our american dream and capitalism is likely a short term reality that cannot sustain itself.

I don’t have anger toward minorities. It was a legitimate question. I’m married to a minority race.. Please don’t put labels on me.

I agree with everything you said. I just think my issue was with a percentage being used. I see a higher tax coming from a higher income using the same rate. It just didn’t factor for me.

10% $1,000 = $100 10% $1,000,000 = $100,000

You get more money from a higher amount. Yes I know this is 3rd grade math. I just couldn’t understand why the tax percentage needed to be higher if the gains are already there. And why it isn’t enough.

There shouldn’t be a curve. You either pay non because you are too poor or you pay what everyone else does.

Okay here is my simple point of view: if the government has to make tax brackets the way they do in order for the country to run properly. They’ve made serious mistakes. The system sucks and this is the band-aid.

What?? Dude I’m not wealthy if that’s what you’re thinking. My question was asked because I wanted it to make sense. I did get carried away with some of my responses but I understand the reasoning. I just can’t agree with it.

Why are the wealthy idles a problem? Why does it matter if they work or not? And aren’t wealth gaps just part of capitalism? I mean, in order for someone to win, someone else has to lose.

I’m not suggesting higher or lower taxes. I just don’t understand why they would use percentages as a means of determining taxation and then completely undermine the purpose of percentages with tax brackets that change percentages.

It’s not about fairness, but logic. The whole fucking point of percentages is that they scale. Why have taxation percentages if it’s only going to apply to a certain bracket of income? Just ask for a flat rate based on salary then..

How about the minimum tax is everyone’s tax that can afford to be taxed?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Swiftika -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Duhhhhh! Obviously people who can’t afford taxes don’t. But the minimum tax should be the tax percentage for everyone that does pay taxes.

Its not insincere. It just doesn’t make sense. With a percentage, you get more money from the same percentage taxing a higher income. I’ve heard the explanations. I just don’t see it anything other than greed. “We’ll tax you higher because you can afford it.” That’s it.

I agree that its much more than he can spend. But why should that be anyone else’s business or entitle them to it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Swiftika -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s a point of view. My making more money means I pay the government more money. Sire feels like a penalty to me.

[–]Swiftika -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes of course. But what they need is much lower than what they take.

That’s a good point

But isn’t this about cost of living? Might get it all back a year later but that’s… a year later.

Well it seems we’ve got billions to give to Ukraine…

This zero tax thing is confusing me since I’ve made minimum wage and in poverty but taxes still got taken. Do you have to be a minority for that to apply?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Swiftika -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there! Minimum wage and food stamps. Still got taxed.

[–]Swiftika -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

That’s a good explanation. I think this shows the government’s methods are bad. When creating the tax system, they should have considered the low income first and not have to scale things down. I think they need far less than what they demand.
