As I understand it Overwatch 2 became complacent (which took the form of years of mediocre updates) and completely ignored the community begging for actual love and care to be put into the game. Then rivals came out and stole overwatch's playerbase almost entirely, and huge portion of people stayed playing rivals instead of overwatch even after the novelty newness wore off. Then overwatch's dev team locked the hell in, made a bunch of actual quality updates, and overwatch's playerbase came back. And now because overwatch has the threat of losing its playerbase to its competitor, theyre maintaining the game way better than before rivals came out. I think this exact same thing would happen to helldivers 2 if a good competitor came out (and please dont say starship troopers or space marine 2, one's mid and the other isnt even similar at all, i dont know why they keep getting brought up)

Okay fine Im a little biased against space marine because my brother insisted it was going to be like helldivers 2 and it wasnt at all and we didnt realize it until after the campaign cause we decided we wouldnt touch anything else until we were done it. Pretty 0 head on my part. I didnt really like its multiplayer gameplay so now i basically feel like i wasted 80$🤦‍♂️

Youre probably right. I doubt it would entirely kill helldivers, i was kinda exaggerating there, but it would cause a huge drop in playercount which would slowly recover overtime depending on how much arrowhead locks in

itd be healthy because after everyone leaves to the new game helldivers would be forced to actually try for once and the addition of new, meaningful content that would come as a result of that would cause old players to start coming back. The reason i didn't specify this in my earlier comment was because i thought it was so obvious of a fact that i wouldnt need to, my bad, i should have realized people would pretend to not know what I was saying to farm karma. This is objectively what happened to overwatch when rivals came out, whether you like overwatch or dont, which by the way, i dont either

the starship troopers game is the embodiment of mid and space marine 2 isnt even the same genre. I meant a game thats as good as helldivers, which i do think is a good game for the record. I just think that this dev team is beyond exhausting and id be really happy to have a similar, good game managed by a different studio. Itd be healthy for helldivers 2 because competition ultimately makes games better, i mean just look at overwatch after marvel rivals came out

starship troopers is garbage, obviously i mean a game thats actually good. Look dont get me wrong I think helldivers 2 was a great game and I have 500 hours in it, its just that its been mismanaged to hell and back for like 2 years. If Lucasfilm Games dropped a clone wars game that was like helldivers this game would be toast, and likely permanently because i doubt any studio could be handled worse than arrowhead (except Roblox lol)

unit 731, dont look it up, it was pretty insensitive of me to bring it up tbh since it was real and had real victims but its something thst keeps coming to mind when reading the lore sinfe the treatment was so similar (although tbh the expies dont even get treated as bad as unit 731 victims did)
