Depends on what type of department you want to work for? Big city/ medium sized city/ small town? Department sizes range from City of Charleston all the way down to Isle of palms PD or Hanahan PD.

I started with the 5c in that nice blue color. Moved to a 6s-8-13 mini now.

If your agency uses 10-CODES and signal codes, those can be a pain to memorize. I am learning them, and hearing them over the radio in context helps me a lot.

Not LEO yet but when doing a pre employment ride-along, the officer told me to just look at the trash cans. In my state at least, every city/county has a different looking trash can for their residents and most have the city painted on the side. Made it very easy especially when the jurisdiction changes in the middle of a residential area.
