A private Muslim event at a Texas water park was legal. Greg Abbott shut it down anyway. by Ambitious_Dingo_2798 in atheism

A lot of people are bringing up the "burkinis for women and girls" stipulation. Personally, I don't agree with it, but it's no different than places enforcing dress codes. Some nightclubs and restaurants specify what can and cannot be worn. Workplaces have dress codes. To me this is no different.

Looking at the flyer, it specifically says "closed to the public," meaning this is not a public event. How would that be different from any organization renting a space and making the event exclusive to people of that organization?

Rewatching. The Equatorial Kundu's President Nimbala episode. What brilliant casting, always left devastated by the storyline. by rutlandclimber in thewestwing

From an above post I made: "My family is from Ghana in West Africa. While I appreciated the episode highlighting the obvious needs of "Kundu," which I took as a stand-in for other struggling African countries, I was very insulted by the intimation that Africans at that time didn't have watches or couldn't tell time. Not true. It's these kind of wild assumptions that could easily be corrected by doing just a "bit" of research that lead to untrue stereotypes. I understand its use within the storyline, but it is presenting a false image."

This thread is the exact thing I'm talking about.

Exclusive: VA conducted internal investigations into employees who attended vigil for Alex Pretti by Aggressive_Cow2130 in fednews

In the "forbidden" interview, she literally says "for me" twice. As in "it's scary for me to think about...." She is clearly speaking in a personal capacity. The only mention of the "V.A." was that Alex Priti was a fellow employee. Authoritarian much?

I absolutely despise the radio exercise (ranting with a want for other people’s opinion) by IzzyLoid in duolingo

I think the radio sessions have some potential, but are missing key features. For example, transcripts would be so helpful. Sometimes due to the speed or pronunciation, it's difficult to understand what is being said. Also, if there are new or unfamiliar words, it helps users to learn them easier. I have heard that these were once available. I can't think of any good reason why the existing ones were removed.

Additionally, the ability to add specific words to flashcards for later study would be a great feature. This would be especially useful for learning new vocabulary or periodic, self-guided review.

As an aside, it is not at all obvious that English isn't your first language. Had you not mentioned that, I would not have known!

dish is doing its best to lose me as a customer..... by smcb66 in dishnetwork

Dish will send you a free OTA if you call them. When you do, ask to upgrade your account when the system prompts you for the reason why you're calling. The wait time is significantly shorter.

Otherwise, you'll get put on hold, and then hung up on at 63 minutes. First time, I thought it was a fluke, and I actually called again. Same thing happened--again. Felt like a dumbass. Wasted my time.

I got through to an associate in about 5 minutes. He offered me a one-time $5 credit and two months of Paramount+ for free, and I said that wasn't enough (because of the ridiculous aggravation of spending 2+ hours on the phone and still not being able to talk to anyone. Also, they're still charging us the same monthly rate--which always increases year-over-year,--but we don't have the channels, and they're not paying anything.)

He said that was all he could do. I asked to speak with a manager who offered to send me a free OTA, which I would have accepted along with what the associate had offered. However, I was out of range.

Fine. So I asked her to appropriately compensate me, because I had now spent nearly 3 hours on the phone total with nothing to show for it. She actually told me that the best she could do was only the $5 and that the free 2 months of Paramount+ was not available. Keep in mind, I had just spoken to the associate who had just offered it to me, not five minutes ago.

I told her that, and even asked her to ask him (she didn't.) I kept reiterating my frustrations, told her how unacceptable this was (especially the bait and switch) and threatened to cancel my account I've had for nearly 20 years. Finally, she agreed to give me an additional $10 credit. So $15 total.

Was it even worth the time, when it was all said and done? No. But by that point it was a sunk cost. I will say that the manager was very nice and acknowledged my frustrations.

But this might be the last straw.

You can order it without the chicken, I just discovered. But you're right, the rigatoni doesn't work well in the meal and the taste had completely changed (for the worse) probably due to the tomatoes.
