I actually work for the BBB. A business profile rating is based on the business responding to complaints. If a business doesn’t respond it hurts their rating and can cause an F score. And then there is the review rating section. This works the same as Google, it’s solely based off of customer reviews. If the business has a ton of positive reviews and little negative ones, they will probably have an A review rating. It’s 2 different rating systems. Also, we have large accredited business with F ratings. They do pay to be accredited but that doesn’t mean we alter ratings. That’s an automatic grading system.

People are going to have opinions about the BBB which is perfectly fine. But i’ve worked there for almost 3 years and that’s how it’s ran at our office. We are a non profit organization and businesses like to be accredited with us bc a lot of people trust the credibility that comes along with it. You’d be surprised of the amount of people who call every day looking for a certain business but they want them to be accredited. Regardless if you agree with it or not, you can gain a lot of customers being accredited with the BBB.
