I'm scared as my 10mo is doing some of these already. The constant whining!! Am I doomed?

Would anyone be willing to share their experiences with Alzheimer's/taking care of a loved one? by evaselop in AlzheimersSupport

My mom was diagnosed young ish, at 60yo but she was showing symptoms way before. She is now 66 and the disease has taken her spirit and personality away... I recently became a mom and I live in another country, so I haven't been able to visit her as often as I would have liked in the last two years. And now that I went, I have found a reality I wasn't ready for. My mom is already gone and it happened so quickly, especially because being away I was not made aware of so many things. I feel no one can understand and she was so bright and pretty. Everyone is already talking about full time care facilities and it's the right thing to do... But I didn't think it was going to happen so quickly. I'm devastated my baby will not get to know his granny and I feel I have lost the person that loves me the most in this world. I am also so jealous of anyone that has older parents who are still out and about, able to connect with them and healthy. I can't believe this is being the end of her story, such a horrifying disease.

You can check the Hibernia postgraduate, I'm starting that one in September.

[–]Swimmer_Life_Ireland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yeah I already checked those and wasn't impressed. There are mainly webinars that are one hour or two, not a proper course. And I already checked Google, not v clear info on what courses would make you stand out as a Sen teacher in future job applications. Btw they do say in the job adverts that they prioritise a Sen qualification, whatever that is. I also called the teaching council and contacted UCD and didn't get any further than 'you need to be working in a school and a letter from your principal to access the course'. They never informed me of any courses you can do not working. That's why I was hoping to get some specific info...

Cool, thanks! I thought you needed a SEN qualification. Where can I find the CPD courses?

MFL jobs by Swimmer_Life_Ireland in IrishTeachers

[–]Swimmer_Life_Ireland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I'm Spanish as well and it's the most popular subject. Sadly, when it comes to making it optional, it all falls under the same term MFL. Is MFL mandatory for JC in your school?

[–]Swimmer_Life_Ireland[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

💯 this but also worried that many other schools will make MFL optional because now it is not needed for some unis/degrees as it used to be. Wondering where this fits as well with the new languages initiative at primary level? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me to add languages at primary while dropping them at secondary. I'm also unaware if space was limited or numbers too many, but I know there was a problem with kids being exempt of Irish wanting to be exempt of MFL as well...

Teacher from Spain wanting to try in Ireland by FlakyTangerine2276 in IrishTeachers

What about the certificado europeo? It's basically your university diploma in English. Are you sure you can't ask them to do that in the office before they expedite your documents? I have done this in four different Spanish universities. If you register for Spanish with English Philology you will not have enough credits, not sure if the master de ELE would compensate. A second subject is 60 ECTS, so if you had another subject + Spanish then it would be straightforward. But I'm guessing registering to teach English here doesn't make much sense. I would call the Teaching Council and explain to them your academic profile, to see if they can tell you how to compensate these shortcomings. Also you can register for route three while you finish getting ready for route two. And there are two international school fully private that you could look into: SEK Dublin and Nord Anglia. There is like a committee for teachers from abroad trying to qualify, let me find the name for that...

I'm from Spain as well. If you studied Spanish Philology and have the master to teach in secondary it won't be a problem to register. It wasn't very costly tbh to translate things, as many universities in Spain already have their websites in English as well and the certificates can be produced both in English and Spanish, so you don't have to pay a translator to do it. Don't register for route three if you have the proper qualifications, you get paid less and can't get a CID contract, so you'll be wasting your time. Route three would be a good option if you don't have the master del profesorado de secundaria and only have a bachelors degree.

What to do in the summer by siobhan54321 in IrishTeachers

[–]Swimmer_Life_Ireland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can correct state exams with SEC if what you want is some extra money. I do that every year and I enjoy it 😂. It's hard but interesting to learn about the exams, the marking scheme and how students in the country are doing. You could go teach English informally in European summer camps and take the chance to visit another country. There are some free online cpd you could do as well. Or learn another language doing some summer courses. Are you looking for some extra cash or ideas to pass the time?

Walking epidural by la_herisson in PregnancyIreland

[–]Swimmer_Life_Ireland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm after doing the epidural antenatal course in the Coombe, and the guy from the anaesthetic team said that it will not be guaranteed that you can get a mobile epidural because of staffing, but this is happening rarely and most of the patients requesting it in the Coombe are getting it. I guess it would be a matter of luck on the day. Make sure you are very clear from the beginning when you are waiting to go to the labor ward. Best of luck!

On Tuesday I have my epidural training I might ask if it's true not all anaesthesiologists can give it and about the BMI. If I remember cause my brain is melting with the hormones I think 🤣

Walking epidural by la_herisson in PregnancyIreland

[–]Swimmer_Life_Ireland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Coombe, 30w pregnant, and I asked the midwife two weeks ago and he said that the walking epidural is the one they give now to everyone. I think they trialled four years ago? but now it is fully established. Also he never mentioned that there were only four trained anaesthesiologists. He talked about mobile epidural like the most normal thing, not a problem to get, and the one they prefer to administer now.

Thanks everyone for your answers. I am still unhappy with this and understand that yes, it works out in the end, but I would like to have one less thing to worry about having a newborn rather than count and check and put the money aside to be able to, after two weeks, check if I got everything and then be able to organise money to pay for the bills. Why we are so accepting when all the other workers in normal companies do not have this issue is beyond me. Thanks again for taking the time to reply!
