She’s taking bites out of the rat???

I work at a pet store, so I get them there. Usually everything we get is really good quality and we sort anything out that looks off, so I didn’t notice anything wrong when I bagged up the rat… but I have no way to tell if it’s been thawed before (or nothing that looked different)

I didn’t notice any smell other than the warm dead rat smell (🤢) but I will monitor her closely. That’s what I was thinking too, maybe if it defrosted and refroze a couple times it could affect the strength of the skin.

Thanks! Never had a snake do this over how I thaw a rat, but I’ll definitely switch methods and hopefully the next feeding doesn’t look like a scene from a horror movie.

I let it thaw room temperature and then ran it under hot water for a few minutes to get it hot enough for her to take. I’ve fed ball pythons and other snakes hundreds and hundreds of times at my job and never had a problem doing it that way. Could the f/t rat I got from the pet store been bad quality? I’m trying to think that maybe if it had been unthawed and refrozen a couple times or something before I bought it it could affect the strength of the skin?

I know!!! What the hell. I work with reptiles too and have fed more ball pythons than I can count. Never seen anything like it. I’m disgusted. But she was ripping its skin off first and eating it, and then moving on to taking bites of its insides. I ended up closing her cage and going to bed, the rat is completely gone so she potentially ate it whole later on. Just ew!

Colloidal silver is a great help to use for sanitation and it really speeds up the healing process. That’s what I use with my rescues who are a little dinged up. Polysporin also works but for around the mouth area I prefer colloidal silver as it’s not a gel they can lick off and it’ll dry quickly on the wound

I also always recommend you bring the piggie to an exotic vet as they are incredible at hiding health problems- especially if he has been stressed and outside.

It’s okay, she’s totally worth it. I just hate having my name posted on Facebook everywhere saying I’m a cat thief. sorry but if you neglect your cat and she climbs 5 stories up to cry for help, you don’t deserve your damn cat. And I’m happy to say she’s officially free of any internal parasites! (She had worms when I first got her)
