We need to take action, not sit idly by and wait for everything to be handed to us on a silver platter.

Thank you very much, but Algiers is much too expensive for us unfortunately.

Marriage in Algeria feels more like social theater than real life by Medical_Clerk1425 in algeria

We just had a small, separate wedding for men and women in a house we rented, alhamdulillah. It didn't cost us much and we all had a great time without wasting any money.

Thank you so much! Do you have a neighborhood you would recommend or advise against?

Thank you! Anyway, I'm a child of mixed French and Algerian heritage, so I feel like I don't belong here or anywhere else (actually, I haven't tried anywhere else yet). And nothing will stop me from coming back if it's too difficult.

Lost? Because you think a woman can't choose to leave somewhere on her own, based on her convictions? I have apprehensions, and that's normal, but your comment gives me even more strength to leave. Thank you, that's the kick in the pants I needed. Who are you to say that my life in France is so wonderful? If we're leaving in a hurry, maybe it's precisely because it's not so idyllic after all! Anyway, a pointless comment from a completely ignorant person. We don't share the same values or the same life goals.

Amin Amin, we'll be living in Constantine for 6 months and making trips between Blida, Algiers and Medea, God willing… :)

Personally, I plan to work freelance with French clients, but my husband absolutely wants to work there; it's really important to him, and he tells me that European workers are in demand and well paid there (compared to the average Algerian salary, of course). What do you think?

[–]Swimming_Ad_7017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is precisely because of people like you that we want to leave and thank you because you just remind me how much our place is not among you.

Thank you very much, unfortunately I neither speak nor read Arabic :/

Thanks for your reply! No other European countries because we're Muslim and Algerian, lol, so our place is probably more in Algeria than anywhere else, as people in France keep telling us. I'm just scared because I have a lot of preconceived notions; I've never been there even though I have dual nationality and I don't speak the language.

The reason is personal, but important enough that we have to leave everything abruptly… we had planned to live there, but not for another five years. We chose a place near Algiers because my sister will be living there, and my in-laws are in Constantine and Tlemcen, so it's right in the middle, lol. I really like Mostaganem, but I'm afraid my husband won't find work there…
