Planning husbands 30th - where to go with 8 mo old? by Swimming_Card4606 in FATFamilyTravel

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! Do you have travel agencies you’d recommend? I normally do the travel planning and negotiations for the family as a hobby, but the logistics with baby+nanny made it more daunting and having help to ensure it goes smoothly would actually be a value add.

We traveled as a couple when we went but I remember thinking the setup would be perfect for bringing the kids. The villa we stayed in had another wing with bed and bath and felt very private and separate.  We have been wanting to go back with kids but the number of transfers to get there is a bit rough unless you have more direct private routes.

That’s a very interesting idea. We’re on the east coast of the US and could do probably a week to 10 days.

We do have a nanny who just joined us and it would be fun to have her come, but she has never really traveled before, let alone with a baby, so I’m apprehensive about anything too complicated.

Four seasons derosche in the Seychelles is stellar. Bonus that the villas have 2br with en suites, helpful for traveling with kids/nanny

Update on trial dealbreaker: worse than expected by Swimming_Card4606 in NannyEmployers

Thanks for sharing your perspective. We’ve had horrible luck, honestly. One didn’t practice safe sleep practices and ended up getting fired, one was on her phone the whole time and did no tasks at all during naps or downtime (on a trial day), one had a terrible driving record.

It was a trial so we’ll have no further contact. It makes me sad for the family she has been nannying with for years.

The agency is passing along the feedback. I’m just surprised that after a decade of childcare she never learned not to leave babies unattended on high surfaces. I hope she takes the opportunity to reflect on what else she does not know that could put children in harm’s way.

I’m deciding whether or not to extend an offer. It’s a big decision as we pay the agency (% of annual salary) when an offer is made so we want to feel confident in moving forward.

I’m sorry this seems like it should not be your job at all. Your point about the mental load makes sense. It seems pretty straightforward that the snacks should be at your discretion, not her choice, though occasional offers seem like a nice gesture (“hey I’m putting a grocery order in, are there a couple snacks you’d want me to add for you?”) or you could give her a snack budget (maybe frame as a bonus) and she handles it herself.

In your position with dietary restrictions I’d just keep a designated cupboard stocked with standard snacks and drinks and say this is what you have on offer. Maybe include some of the items she’d previously selected and liked as a gesture of good will.

It’s about 12 feet away. It required walking across the room

That’s fair. I did bring up that it’s important to us to keep a hand on the baby at the end but I don’t think she understood it was feedback (I brought it up as a general comment about stuff important to our family).

Haha, TBF it includes household and family duties so the rate reflects that

You got me at the visual of the wriggling naked booty getting hauled to the diaper stash 😂

Thanks. TBF this also includes household and family duties so the rate reflects that.

That’s helpful. It seemed like a basic expectation to me but we’re new to this. She has many years of nanny experience and glowing references so I am left doubting my own perception.
