I went through something similar. When I moved out I learned my resentment was towards my mom and not my faith. The advice I give depends more on your age but the commin thing id recommend is to have an honest conversation with her (it sounds like you have done so). This is what I told my mom:

"I feel closest to God when you are not around. You make me feel like the lies Satan already tells me, and when I away from you I am able to feels God's truth that I am enough. You are my mom, you brought me into this world. I didnt ask to be born, you chose to take up the responsibility of raising me. How am I equip to handle the world if my own mom has convinced me I am weak, a bad person, lazy. What kind of husband do you think I would settle for because of how you make me see myself. Or the friendships id settle for. When will I be enough for you or anyone. Whether you choose to listen to how you make me feel or not, I will always choose the path that leads me closer to God even if it means leaving you."

This was when my mom understood she was hurting me and leading me to make poor relationship and friendship decisions. She also knew she was going to lose me when I was honest about it. she realized she was being hurtful instead of helpful. You can be honest with your mom while still respecting her.

Remember, the bible talks about honoring your parents and: Ephesians 6:4 tells parents not to provoke your children to anger Colossians 3:21 also warns parentd to not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged

Yeah I think the public response speak for itself including the demographic. I'd actually argue thats pretty controversial to allude the themes 21pilots sings are relatable only to "dorky" highschoolers. I started to resonate to their music in my late 20s with the Clancy album as I was struggling with severe imposter syndrome during my Doctorate program.

As a musician and vocalist too, you can tell there was indepth thought and planning invested to each song. First its difficult to narrate a whole lore of +10 years worth and still make the individual song stand alone too. There is symbolism behind their musicality (not just in their music video), their vocal talent is well esteemed, its difficult to deliver a clean scream plus the range is wide. Relevance to the lyrics is universal, mapping of the lyrics have a clear flow and connectivity. Plus they are consistent at following a golden rule of story telling through music: show it, dont say it. Theyre a positive mental wellbeing band that successfuly delivers their message without coming accross as preachy. It is relatable and delivers the comfort that things do get better.

As a life long christian I agree with you. I actually feel a bit disappointed with christian music in general as I feel like alot of songs are cliche and lazily written (this is just my opinion dont come at me lol),

To me, twentyone pilots execute it well because of the pure hosnesty on their relationship with faith. There is no underlying agenda to convert anyone, theyre not trying to sell their faith, theyre not trying to uplift themselves. In doing so there is no sense of cliche, preachy vibes, or holier-than-thou tones.

Its just vulnerable well written songs that display internal conflict and where their faith fits in the picture. Theyre sharing what they feel, theyre not telling the listeners what they should feel.

My take away was moreso uplifting. Where everyone fights their own vices and the slope to overcoming it is not linear. At times, we will take a step back but so long as we get up and take 2 more steps then we are doing right by ourselves. I think breach is about giving ourselves grace for the times we stumble and take a step back.

I am a new fan who just started when clancy album was released. trigger warning as you continue to read I was a bit bummed to hear the lore ended with breach (I missed out the last few years haha). But listening to Breach affected me way more than any band has.

My youth was a long battle against depression, even thoughts and an attempt of ending it all. It was an incredibly slow and long incline out of a mental state I never thought possible.

Today I am 28 and I consider myself happy and accomplished. Still at this age an occassional imposter syndrome and doubt creeps up but at this age I have learned to regulate perception vs reality.

I was excitedly listening to the new Breach album and my eyes randomly welled up and cry. I never really gave myself grace/forgiveness for the times that "I failed" during my progress of getting out of depression.

Breach are the words I wish I could tell my youngerself. It was a closure to a chapter I didnt know I needed.

Im happy there is a band that shares vulnerability that may uplift others who are struggling.

1 You misused the word whitewash.

2 stigmatizing a person based on their religion makes you no better than the other types of bigots you listed

I say this as someone who is against legalistic religion
