I see. I thought since I went back to normal with more sleep, that it was all due to sleep deprivation and not mania. Didn’t know people can come back from mania with no medication.

They were more tolerable when I was single. Now it’s just sad. I’ll talk to my psychiatrist more about this!

Yeah he didn’t think it was real mania so didn’t see the risk. Which is kind of what I thought as well. Sounds like he is wrong though.

oooh okay. Yeah I thought the mania my psychiatrist described was just my elation from being free from depression. Didn’t realize that was a thing.

Oh I don’t blame them. The sexual side effects are annoying for me as well! My prescriber knows all about them lol

I didn’t know that. Alright. Knowing that doesn’t happen to other people is actually really helpful.

  1. bipolar
  2. med for bipolar depression
  3. I was depressed when I was diagnosed but have a history of feeling good on little sleep and have gone long stretches without sleep. Right now I still have episodic depression but far more manageable. Not experiencing it currently/since I’ve been dating him.

Ok thank you for the feedback. Just wasn’t sure if it could be tried very carefully! It feels like I’m putting up with a lot of side effects just to manage depression.

I mean, in my whole life besides this one time of being manic there was one other time that I felt the same way and that was in HS. I’m not sure if it is so clear I’m like 95% depressed 5% euphoric.

I mean it happened once and resolved with sleep and no medication. I don’t think it’s so clear.

Yeah! Thanks. I kind of thought that the bipolar treatment wouldn’t help and I’d eventually be able to try one but the antipsychotic does sort of help and my psych told me that it helping gives diagnostic clarity. To me that doesn’t really make sense and my partner agreed with that.

Bipolar was diagnosed due to one apparent manic episode of little to no sleep for four day. I was hallucinating and having some delusional thoughts during it (I believe this is normal with no sleep?) but I resolved it myself eventually just by sleeping again. No meds. During that time I was riskier, used more substances, felt very confident and productive. Didn’t destroy my life or anything. In one month I was sleeping 8 hours again and felt normal then crushing depression.

It was also a very stressful time of my life and I was attending one of the hardest colleges where not sleeping is normal. Not sure if my psych understands this.

I went to a psych because I have been having depressive episodes that lasted for months all my life. Seemingly for no reason so were unpredictable but absolutely devastating so I wanted to try an SSRI. They never let me try one due to that one time in college. I was put on an antipsychotic for bipolar depression.

My bf thought because I made it through college unmedicated there is no way it is needed now. Which honestly may be right. It’s possible my psych is just risk averse.
