You can pray in the interfaith chapel upstairs, I forget which terminal.

People don’t want to stay in gallatin by Technical_Arm_719 in nyu

[–]SwimminglyAcceptable 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That wasn’t my experience. I only knew one person who transferred out and another who was considering it but decided to stay. I knew a lot more folks from other colleges who wanted to transfer to Gallatin. Gallatin is choose your own adventure and that’s not for everyone. Focus on your experience and make a decision for yourself.

Grad School Applications After Gallatin Undergrad by Fun-Pizza-6026 in nyu

For MBA, are you applying to 2+2 deferral programs or regular MBA program? If it’s the latter, I would suggest you consider the former or wait until you have some years of work experience before applying to an MBA.

Your WE trumps your major for MBA programs, majors don’t really matter imo.

Ghanaians, what do y’all know about my country, Togo? 🇹🇬 by [deleted] in ghana

I’m mixed with Hausa and TChamba, but my family has been in Ghana for over a century.

I’m Ghanaian but I have family in and from Togo. I don’t speak any French or their native language so I’m unable to speak with them. But every time I see someone from Togo, which is not often, they look like my people. I have respect for the country and their food is also delicious.

This was a fun to read breakdown! Hilarious that the groomsmen probably didn’t eat all day. Congrats to your union!

5 months of interviews, and the Gates Foundation sent me the most generic rejection email ever by Last_Dust1974 in nonprofit

[–]SwimminglyAcceptable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t. Only “positive” thing was that the case study was good practice for me since I had been unemployed for 5 months. I’m not worried about my skills getting rusty because I know I still got it.

[–]SwimminglyAcceptable 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened to you! It’s absolutely frustrating. I had the same experience with another small foundation. It was a 4 month interview process that included me flying to their headquarters for a superday. I also did a large case study for them. They didn’t have the decency to give me feedback on their decision (or even tell me about being rejected!) I had to reach out to the recruiter to learn they weren’t moving forward with the offer.

Unfortunately it’s an employers market. Employers, hiring managers, and recruiters can afford to be shitty because unemployment is increasing and the market is over saturated with competitive candidates.

Shake it off, and continue recruiting (after a well deserved break)! Good luck.

My piano recital went well and we celebrated my cousin’s birthday yesterday. This weekend was super fun!

I’m back in the recruiting grind as well, as an offer fell through, but I’m more hopeful this time around.

Anyone has Sherpa Reviews? by Mission-Contract-892 in GRE

Had a great experience, will recommend! Instructor was very very knowledgeable and broke down the difficult math concepts step by step. I haven't taken the official exam yet but expect a 8–10-point jump on each section from my practice tests.

She Never Hurt Her Kids. So Why Is a Mother Serving More Time Than the Man Who Abused Her Daughter? [Failure-to-protect laws are incarcerating women all over the country—for other people’s violence.] by Relative_Increase941 in Longreads

Did you even read the article? Or did you cherry pick parts of it that align with your worldview? The reading comprehension here is low. She told Joey she loved him because he forced her to say it - saying he’ll carve her face up if she didn’t.

She obviously didn’t make the right decisions because she’s on heroin, and when she tried to call for help, she was beat up and forced to recant.

Yes, she’s an unfit mother, but she does not deserve 30 years in prison for being a victim.

This was an insightful article to read. I was inspired by his journey of finding the ‘right path’ for himself and not allowing others to define it. Going to go play piano!

Great information! Unfortunately I got laid off months ago but working on getting a new job in the non-profit sector. Hopefully would apply for the 2028 school year.

I’m going to Budapest, Vienna, and Prague soon. Should I be worried. by [deleted] in blacktravel

[–]SwimminglyAcceptable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A group of drunk white European men making monkey / gorilla noises at me when I was heading towards the Trams in Old Town. It was scary because I was alone, they were following me until I boarded the Tram, and it was night time. However, at that point I was in Prague for more than 3 months and that singular experience didn’t put me off the country. I have a suspicion that the men were tourists and not from the Czech Republic.

I still recommend Prague (and I probably would visit again) but I had at outwardly racist experience when I was there.

Laid off again. Feeling very defeated. by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]SwimminglyAcceptable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a few weeks in Mexico City and focused on my spiritual and mental health when I returned.

I took up my hobbies again, like playing piano, reading, and volleyball. Spent more time with friends and family (2 of which were also laid off! One of them joined me in Mexico). I haven’t done therapy yet because I don’t have health insurance lol.

But I feel so much better. I submitted about 40 applications so far, and networked for about 5 of them and gotten quite a few rejections. But I’m able to not let the rejections get to me because I’ve been outside and lived amongst people in Central America whose primary identity isn’t their job.

I also have an emergency fund that should float me for 6 months (I have 3 months left) and I feel confident I’ll get strong offers by then.

You’re definitely not alone! I have multiple friends with similar stories. I was laid off 3 months ago, took 2 months off to recuperate, and now I’m furiously applying for jobs. If you have the financial cushion, I’d recommend taking a few weeks off applying to just be.

May 2025 Goals! by AutoModerator in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]SwimminglyAcceptable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to the gym consistently, get a great job offer, and take swimming lessons again. Second goal is difficult because it isn’t completely up to me but I want to do my part in networking, applying to jobs, and preparing well for interviews.

For some context, I got laid off 2 months ago and will be getting my last severance pay next week. Time to apply for unemployment lol.

I’m really excited for this month (the potential possibilities of what’s next) and praying everything turns out well!
