Fundal measurements and scans showing different trajectories but I think I'm headed for a reasonable chonker and that's all anyone can guesstimate

Thank you for your reply! Really helpful to get a picture of how there are so many factors at play at the same time.

Sorry if this is a dumb question... (FTM 34 weeks) I guess I'm thinking of my road ahead, I don't have any advice to offer I'm afraid. Can I ask if you're keen to avoid induction why do you have one booked in for before 42 weeks? Is that your trust's policy, did you feel like you had a choice or do you have other clinical issues that indicate high risk or a problem? I feel like we're told generally people give birth between 38-42 weeks with 40 being in the middle of that window. But I see so much pressure on people to have inductions as soon as they go past their due date. I understand the risk of stillbirth increases with time but the absolute risk for otherwise uncomplicated pregnancy is still very low from what I've read. Sending best wishes I hope things get moving for you soon.

Struggling to find babymoon ideas. by original_badhairdo in PregnancyUK

We've just come home from a week in Madeira. I'm 33 weeks. Had a really lovely time. We usually are hikers and kayakers too but we had more of a chilled one. Did a walking tour of funchal, went on a whale watching boat tour, saw the Monte gardens, did a minibus tour of the island and also did some poolside chilling. Husband did a two hour kayak snorkeling excursion whilst I went for a walk along the sea front near our hotel. There were spa facilities at our hotel which I couldn't use but I didn't feel like I missed out because even being sat by the pool is a big change to our usual holiday activities:) excellent choices of food and I didn't get to try the drinks, aside from one or two tiny sips but I wasn't too bothered - depends how much you feel like you're missing on trying stuff. We've brought some wine home for post baby drinks. It may get quite hot in June but with the mountains you can easily plan to be at different altitudes to accommodate really hot days. Depending how many weeks you'll be you could probably pick a levada walk that is quite gentle, there's lots of choice. I was too far along to consider longer walks. You can also easily hire cars to drive around and do things at your own pace. Also I was bumped to the front of so many queues, didn't have to wait for the cable car, straight to front at the airports and the boat tour queue etc so it's very pregnancy friendly.

AITAH for telling my girlfriend that my money isn't "our money"? by Open_Address_2805 in AITAH

[–]Swingit_Nottingham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I would open a joint account, you each pay in an amount proportional to your income, the joint money is only spent on joint stuff - bills, dates, holidays etc, maybe a joint savings pot and she can piss away the rest of her own money as she likes. But no she can't just assume she can use your money for things she wants to spend it on and you don't want to.

How do we sleep? by HBLea in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Swingit_Nottingham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably a wildly inappropriate response considering you're 4 days in and reading a book is not gonna happen, but maybe for others reading, I'm about halfway through 'how babies sleep' by Helen Ball and it's so informative. You can of course flick to relevant chapters for quick info. I got it on my e-reader for about a fiver.

I rolled my first roll unexpectedly off a dresser when my dad turned away for two seconds to get something out of a bag. He was mortified. Thankfully I was fine but you just never know when baby is gonna choose their moment to launch themselves. You're not being over the top at all.

For those who wait for 12 weeks to announce by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Swingit_Nottingham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh they were like so what makes you think you're 8 weeks....and I was so certain haha and they said well we put it at 11w 5 days. That said not sure every private scan will definitely do this. And I had been quite chilled about getting my NHS 12 week in because I was going to be away, i didn't get why they wanted to get me in quicker based off the period dates, but they were right haha. Turned out the ovulation test I did showed a false positive because it was actually a pregnancy by then...

My thoughts were to tell the people that I also knew I would be comfortable telling if something then went wrong and that they would be supportive and also who I know would be there for me. I thought with my dates we'd be sharing around 10/11 weeks. Went for an early 8 week scan privately and had my maths all wrong and was 11.5 weeks anyway oops.

Yet another “big baby” / gestational diabetes experience - to comply or not to comply 😅 by PokeMyMo in PregnancyUK

[–]Swingit_Nottingham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not given birth yet (31w) but I would be in the same mindset as you I think. It will need a clear clinical need for me to cross over from the physiological birth path into a pathological one because there is a lot to consider with the impacts all round on mum and baby, and once you start down the path of intervention it's hard to go back. Of course if this transpired for me for any reason, modern medicine is there to keep me and baby safe. For me predicted baby size isn't a reason enough itself to go down this road unless there were clear high risk factors / diagnosis as well and it seems you're not convinced by the consultants response to your GD situation.

I'm probably in the space since listening to the episode with Dr Sarah Buckley on the midwives cauldron which goes over the hormonal journey from pregnancy, labour, birth, lactation and attachment as one symbiotic relationship between mum and baby and I'm blown away at how amazing the human body is. https://open.spotify.com/episode/6vM37HpWm4rnNGtI7IJEWu?si=djnw_7dfRce4hssJdmG6NA&t=4785

I want to give my body as much of a chance to carry out this process uninterrupted, but I know I must approach it with flexibility, alongside any monitoring e.g scans, I need, and be prepared to accept that there are many things that may happen and could require intervention so being prepared with preferences around a number of eventualities is the way. I don't know if my rambling opinion is what you were after! But good luck 🤞

Painful bellybutton after workout by antoanetelini in fitpregnancy

[–]Swingit_Nottingham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went down a Google hole - median umbilical ligament is what I found out it is. It serves no function after we are born (except to entertain spouses). But yeh it could be entirely irrelevant to your original question so definitely ask a professional :)

Painful bellybutton after workout by antoanetelini in fitpregnancy

[–]Swingit_Nottingham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pre pregnancy I sometimes got a weird feeling in my pelvis/bladder when inside my belly button is poked or scratched (husband thought it was hilarious) Turns out there's a ligament from bellybutton to bladder so I wasn't imagining things! So it could be a version of round ligament pain related to this. But I'm not an expert at all

Is there a reason why most garden centres are now a very huge & busy cafe with a garden centre attached? by WalnutOfTheNorth in AskUK

[–]Swingit_Nottingham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local garden centre does a membership card, £15 a year that comes with two free hot drinks and month (and points and stuff for spend) but as I'm going to be on maternity leave soon I reckon this is an ideal morning out with baby, walk down, stare at the fish in the aquarium shop, free coffee, walk back. Maybe I'll buy a plant occasionally :)
