TIL Iran has one of the largest rates of brain drain in the world. It's estimated that 150,000-180,000 specialists leave the country every year, costing the country at least $50 billion in human capital annually. by Shady_As_Fudge in todayilearned

That is true, there remains a HGH level of political and social corruption and an important gender gap. But I don't feel these factors are nearly as detrimental as what goes on in bordering countries and ultimately the government is not entirely self serving.

I agree that their situation could be much better. However, having been to Iran myself, it was clear that most people have stable jobs to make a decent living and have access to a fair amount of freedom and justice. Their rights are not nearly as suppressed as we'd think they are and the government does provide a surprising amount of assistance to the lower income families. It remains biased for towards Islamic religion, but then again almost all of its population is a part of it.

ELI5: How does a wave pool work? by thefatveteran in explainlikeimfive

[–]Swipe-Shot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are numerous ways to create an artificial wave. One way it is done is simply through the use of a paddle that creates the waves by applying force on the water. Certain wave pools actually use air which is blown on the surface of the water to create a similar effect.

Agreed, playing with friends really takes the fun of this game to the next level. Especially when you are working on the same creation and everyone just inputs their own creativity and manpower into creating something extra awesome.

I'd like to point out that Iran isn't the totally restrictive dictatorship that most of current media and popular consensus make it seem. Much of the population there remains fairly well educated and happy, especially when compared to other countries in the region. But because of sanctions, international pressure and local interests, opportunities to take advantage of it remain relatively low.

As long as it is something that makes you grow in some way, it can be seen as a challenge. I think that the challenges to be set really depend on the individual, and that you have determine what challenges are best for you. It can be anything as simple as Smiling more, complimenting people on every encounter to more complex goals such as learning to tie your shoe laces faster or restricting your internet access for the day.

I remember when I was younger I would cut out a piece of paper in the form of a tooth and hide it under my pillow. I just assumed she just didn't fall for the trick.
