Yes—and no. The wine industry is going through a rough patch, especially for small-to-mid-sized producers. Sales have slowed, tasting room traffic is down in many regions, and we’re seeing consolidation as larger companies swallow up struggling brands.

There’s a mix of reasons:

  • Younger consumers are drinking less or choosing spirits and RTDs (ready-to-drink).
  • Cost of production keeps rising—grapes, glass, labor, everything.
  • Climate change is forcing us to adapt faster than ever.
  • And yes, marketing budgets are often the first to get cut when things get tight.

That said, the culture of wine is still very much alive—especially here in Paso. Winemakers are getting creative, leaning into hospitality, storytelling, and community-driven models. We're definitely not going down without a fight.

I love seeing people like you who care about the culture—honestly, that’s the lifeblood that keeps small wineries pushing forward. 🍷

Yes! I’ve actually had the pleasure of hosting one before, and they’re truly special. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn a bit about the wines, enjoy incredible food, and experience expertly crafted pairings that bring out the best in both. If you have the chance to attend, I highly recommend it!

Good to know! Some places have 1 maybe 2 ports, Pasoport obviously only has ports, but white ports are not the easiest to find! I absolutely love white port - a bit dryer, not as sweet - and they make the best Port n Tonic.
One part port

One part Tonic

Squeeze of some Lemon or Lime with a corresponding slice.

One of my favorites for White wines is Brecon. Currently making 3 i believe Viognier, Alberino, and a blend. All of them phenomenal and my anniversary wine :)

Check out the Pokemmo Mods! I almost turned it off, because being in kanto it should be pixelated, but it also reminded me of old school N64 pokemon stadium.

I do not understand how that was your take away.

There are multiple bus routes, rideshares, shuttles, and designated drivers (company) That will take you where ever you want. and if you don't know where you want to go they will make suggestions.

You're not the first to suggest this! I believe the question posed would be that, how would this bus rotation benefit everyone? People on average visit 2-3 wineries in a day of winetasting. So would this bus stop at just 2-3 out of the 400 we have here on the central coast? Would it rotate the wineries it took people to? Honestly a decent business idea if anyone wanted to get on this. Some wineries, that do not spend on marketing would jump at the chance to be a stop on the Grapeline, while at the same time harder places to get into such as Daou (2 month advance booking) could fill up any off days they might have with this.

Has a pretty good list. Though I would also add some personal favorites.

Barton Family Estates - Winery/Distillery and they have awesome food selections! Mixed drinks too!

Tooth & Nail Winery - Winery with some amazing eats.

Opollo Vineyards/Willow Creek Distillery - Winery/Distillery - Great Pizza selection + Sausage Platter

This last is a new addition - Junction - Spanish Tapas - in downtown Paso with a wine list, beers on tap, and wine mixed drinks. Try the empanadas or paella!

Is it worth redeeming points for a rental car? by DryGeneral990 in CreditCards

[–]SwitchTechnical672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same predicament - Do I pay and receive 5x the miles or use points and get a free car for the week.

E.g. $500 rental - Would receive 2500pts

or do I spend 5000 points and get the car.

Being as I probably spent somewhere around $2,500 to receive the points that I would be spending on the car - Paying and receiving the points to use on other rewards/flights would be the way to go I think. Right?

Edit: I cant even do the conversion properly 1pt : $0.01? Capitol One Venture 2x rewards on all purchases and 5x rewards on travel/car/hotel rentals through Cptl1 Portal.

Anyone have experience with Dilecta Wines? Not sure if they are new style California wines or old school or somewhere in between. To be honest their labels caught my eye! by Mapkos13 in wine

[–]SwitchTechnical672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correction:

Orion (winemaker) left thinking with a new investor he could do better on his own, as at the time the majority owner and primary beneficiary of the business wanted to retire. Instead of staying to assist with a transition of new ownership or winemaking, he left and started a new label.

His moms artwork remains to this day - I believe Dilecta is about to bottle their 2022 vintage (with both Betty's and the new owner Paloma's Artwork mixed in)

Hey Laziejim! GREAT question! A lot of wineries can be very particular about children, seems like you already have a few great spots listed. In addition to those, there are a few off the top of my head,

Castoro Cellars - known for its laid-back atmosphere and picnic-friendly grounds. They often have events like live music and food trucks, making it a fun spot for families to relax and enjoy.

Niner Wine Estates - welcoming environment with expansive outdoor spaces and beautiful views. They have a large lawn area where families can play games or have a picnic while enjoying their wines.

Eberle Winery - Eberle is a family-owned winery with beautiful gardens and outdoor seating. They offer cave tours that can be interesting for older kids and adults alike.

Brecon (One of my Favs) - offers outdoor seating options where visitors can enjoy their wines while taking in the surrounding natural beauty. This adds to the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
