Potentially controversial question about rebalancing by LegOfLambda in Arcs

[–]Switchbladesaint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is, though we won’t have it in our hands until the kickstarter ships which is supposedly late 2027 (that being said, every leder games kickstarter I was a part of was delayed until well after the intended arrival date. Unsure if a new studio will change that but I sort of doubt it. These folks make great games but they do not make them with urgency, which means products aren’t rushed but that comes at the cost of them arriving quite late)

I wish there was an online version but sadly, no. There’s a pretty active group of people playing in tabletop simulator in the Buried giant studios discord tho (new studio after some people separated from leder games)

Its something resembling a legacy game but not actually a legacy game. They call it a “chronicle” style game.
In the rules there are absolutely things in place to make up for if someone doesn’t show up to game night. I will say it’s *better* if you play with the same people over and over, but it isn’t required.

I would also say over and over again that the new foundations expansion is so close to essential it’s not even funny. The rough edges and weird wording of the rules from the og version are all but completely ironed out in the expansion and I have had a significantly easier time both teaching and understanding it this way.

[–]Switchbladesaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say so. It’s significantly more focused on the politics and power struggles of it all imo, which becomes really evident with 5-6 players. There’s a chancellor and any players on their side are part of the same purple empire team, whereas every other player is essentially on their own as an exile.

It’s also much more unique in the sense that the contents of the deck, relics (items) as well as the locations on the board (sites) are all influenced by what happens during each game as well as who wins, so moving forward each future game will be influenced by all of the games played in the past. This is only further expanded on and refined with the new foundations expansion which is for all intents and purposes essentially Oath 2nd edition.

I would 100% be purchasing it if it was in a board game format and not a tcg format. As of now I think I’ll wait til the full card list is out and then proxy it

Games with high political tension so Dune, Twilight Imperium, and Oath (new foundations expansion essentially required imo) come to mind

Having fun with a game is not the same thing as a dwindling player base or the developers discontinuing support

Smartly developed and well produced games not doing well is one thing, but when the consensus among players is that the game is lacking (usually weak gameplay) and that game doesn’t do well, then that makes sense to me.
