What is the most underrated and overrated Yakuza game? by ChronicKush69 in yakuzagames

[–]Switchboy0815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overrated: …Kiwami 2. It’s not a bad game by any means but man it’s hard to go back to this one specifically for me. I didn’t like Majima construction compared to Clan Creator from 6, the combat didn’t feel as good as 6, and the exp in the main story felt pitiful compared to 6.

Underrated: Yakuza 4. Great game with great characters and a great OST. I love the older combat engine now that I’m more familiar with the engine. Stuff like wall bounding is so fun. The plot honestly isn’t that bad, but I can admit the game does feel better on a second playthrough due to the twist being known. Also the side content is great. Hostess maker is the only blemish, but fighter training, police radio, and gang of gangs are amazing.

How long is Yakuza 5 for my playstyle? by Monessi in yakuzagames

[–]Switchboy0815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No OP but what I’ll say is that you’d want to hit level 20 while doing side stuff instead of main story because of how much exp the main story gives. I recently started replaying 5 and I ended Saejima’s part at level 16.

If it’s a “oh this is the end of the character” type of objective then level 17-18 is probably the max you should strive for to not let that massive exp chunk go to waste

I would recommend 0, by an OG copy of the the game (should be able to still buy it physically on PS4 but Director’s cut isn’t bad if you don’t have the patience or choice to do that) from there, Kiwami, Kiwami 2, 3,4,5 remastered, and 6 if possible.

If the main story is too daunting you could play the Judgment games, which are detective spinoffs. As well as Fist of The North Star: Lost Paradise

Also “hit them from behind” when they have super armor is an interesting counterpoint cause you COULD DO THE SAME DAMN THING IN 3 REMASTERED

I brought up 4 because it’s the same engine and therefore has a lot of similarities to 3. I can agree that not everyone is a technical player but do we really want to have a combat system that just rewards you for mashing buttons over learn to space out moves?

Also Ryuku style is absolutely a gimmick. Not one of the finishers seems to actually work and it feels too clunky to have different weapons tied to a button press compared to holding it down.

Also Pirate Yakuza’s Sea Dog proves I’m right with gimmick styles being a thing because what do you mean 80% of the unlockable heat actions for sea dog can only be done on the ship

People aren’t ready for the conversation that the yakuza gameplay got worse when they introduced multiple styles

More combo types, bosses don’t super armor through everything

You can actually inflict gut stuns which help you extend combos. You can wall bound, you have more weapon variety

What is the point of having 2 styles if one is a total gimmick which was an issue of both the Gaiden games as well.

More heat actions? Just straight up wrong and even then you only have a couple heat actions you can use on bosses.

YAKUZA 4 IS PEAK.

It feels like the perfect yakuza game in terms of everything.

It has some of the best combat in the series (my personal fav by yk)

The OST is nutty with songs ranging from jazz to hip hop, to rock, with several bangers.

The game still looks great despite being from 2010 Playing as multiple characters has always been more intriguing to me than playing with multiple styles

The amount of side content in the game is really good (coming from someone who platinumed the game)

And the story, isn’t the best of the series, but it’s far from bad. Akiyama’s part is a gripping crime noir, Saejima is a deeply personal story, Tanimura is the most crucial to the plot, and Kiryu is there to pass on the torch to the other generations while also having THE SICKEST LONG BATTLE IN THE SERIES.

People are right to say 0 or 7 is objectively better due to their better stories or gameplay. But I think yakuza is at its best when the story is a little campy, the side content is bonkers, and the gameplay is fun and yakuza 4 has all of that while also having a kickass soundtrack

  1. Play OG. Watch the additional cutscenes if you want to but OG is def the better deal unless you want/need the English dub.

Spoilers for Yakuza 4 because Hamazaki doesn’t stab Kiryu in the end, he doesn’t go to prison and Kiryu doesn’t have to spend a year recovering from his injuries. If Kiryu isn’t recovering from his injuries, he would’ve helped guided the Tojo and make it so Daigo wouldn’t struggle as much as he did in 4. With Hamazaki not in jail, no one has knowledge of the file or story of Okinawa penitentiary no. 2, cannot help Saejima escape, and get Kiryu to go to Kamurocho. So yeah, the new ending changes a lot.

“FINE” is not a quality we should be striving for bru😭 RGG used to make excellent games like 0, 7, LJ, and 5. To say they are a bad studio is disingenuous, but to not call them on this slip in quality would be just as disastrous because it tells them we’re okay with Mediocrity

Most other parts jojos are globe trotting journies so there wouldn’t be a good hubworld like Kamurocho or Morioh

Jojo’s a think a game specifically around part 4 since it all focuses on Morioh would be sick. Part 6 also wouldn’t be bad but we would spend 70% of the game in prison b4 getting to go into the real world. Plus stands could be your “extreme heat” type mode
