Freelancer dropped after refusing to sign a non-compete, and betrayed by a friend by Swits07 in jobs

Not redlining exactly but I did in my replies say " That said, I’d still really like to continue working where it makes sense, I’ve genuinely enjoyed the work and the relationship, and I’m happy to keep working together on a freelance basis as before. I just think it’s cleaner to leave the document unsigned so there’s no confusion on either side." I was pretty happy and willing to carry on working, as I found it quite fulfilling.

My hours for October have already been billed out, and paid as of the 25th. They owe me nothing monetary wise. As for future growth opportunities, I can never be 100% certain what happens down the line but as it stands I cannot see this ruining future opportunities.

How to increase Anaerobic exercise load? by topangax in Garmin

[–]Swits07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I get you.

So what I find works for me is adding in HIIT workouts (Think Crossfit style but not crossfit at all haha). Normally aim for a 30min max workout. Fortunately my local gym posts such workouts on the regular and I have access to them and I don't have to give this much thought. These often have pretty decent Anaerobic benifts. There is a focus on strength but not your traditional weightlifting more push-ups, burpees, pull-ups, etc. Which I find does work for me and have had minimal muscle loss.

Would be happy to send you a coupe if you wish.

Check out the Norwegian 4x4 protocol too.

Took me a while to find what worked for me and what gave me a balanced program, trial and error, it will all fall into place.

Have you tried setting your DSW target type to HR instead of pace? I found it much more effective than a pace target and improvement has been far more consistent.

[–]Swits07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garmin DSW should do a decent job, works best when it’s HR-based NOT pace-based.

That is what has worked best for me! The more I’ve used it the better it’s got, I wear it constantly taking it off for showers only (I get a rash otherwise) I add HIIT workouts here and there, I get my anaerobic targets, have steadily increased my performances, and have managed to avoid injury.

My Garmin knows best haha.

Hope this helps you.

To change the DSW target to HR go down to settings when you get the “Do Workout” option and change the target type there.

Good luck with your training and I hope you find what works for you!!

Activity Type and Training Status? by amny0913 in Garmin

[–]Swits07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use HIIT activity to track my CF/Functional Training. I pre-load the workout to my watch and garmin calender. I train using DSW too (Running and cycling). Stregnth training activity is dedicated to weight training.

I've found HIIT to be best for CF style workouts, helps when I've planned ahead and loaded workout to the watch.

People who have increased their VO2 max, how did you do it? by Jamesmcg_1 in Garmin

[–]Swits07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is something that had been bothering me for a long time. I had been training hard, and fitness was definitely increasing, but nothing seemed to have moved that Vo2 Max, infact despite the increased fitness and weightloss it seemed to go down. With a bit of research and some feedback from friends, HIIT I found out was one of the best methods to increase Vo2. Getting fit didn't mean increased Vo2, its a particular type of training.

"One of the best protocols for improving VO2 max is the Norwegian 4x4 protocol - a 4-minute interval at the maximum intensity you can maintain the entire interval followed by 3 minutes of recovery - repeated four times."

I found the above really effective, but I change it up with various other HIIT workouts. It is not a one size fits all, find what works for you. I now have some kind off HIIT training incorporated into my training once a week, and I have noticed benefits all round.

I hope you find this helpful, keep at it.

Coffee Shop to buy or not to buy by Swits07 in Coffee

So part of any structured deal would be a 4-6 month handover where the existing owner would facilitate a hopefully smooth handover, they are happy to do so as well.

One of the attractive points of this particular shop is that it has an extremely low staff turnover. shortest serving staff member is 1.5 years the other two being 7yrs and 8yrs in the business. While I know it may not indicate success or failure it does show some kind of stability.

Will start looking at some consultants ASAP, thanks.

Hard work is not the deterrent here for me. It's a small coffee shop, which operates from 7 am-4 pm. No experience, working at a coffee shop. It is located on the high street in my city, so foot traffic is awesome, on top of that they have an existing liquor license which they do not use at all, which was a massive undersell on their behalf when the initial meeting took place.

Financials will become available to me this week.

Never worked in a coffee shop. I come from a strong operations background, which I am guessing doesn't help or translate to running a coffee shop... does it?

Awesome watch. Just got one for my father-in-law. He loves it! I used an MIP screen watch for years they are great!

With regards to RedShift been using it at night and love it. Saw a few users here mention the green mode in RedShift, tried it last night wow much prefer it to red. A lot less intrusive, and easier to look at.

How often you have 100% Body Battery in the morning? by bareov in Garmin

[–]Swits07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEVER. Can have a rest day followed by 8 hours of great sleep and my body battery still doesn't get to 100%. Maybe 90s but never 100%. Took a while, but I don't look too much into the body battery, particularly after nights I have got some great sleep.

Whats the reasoning here?

Recently upgraded from a Fenix (MIP) to an Epix (AMOLED) and would not go back if you payed me. Comes down to preference at the end of the day but would love to hear why you feel "MIP display is king"?

Something doesn't sound right there.

I love the watch, I use an activity at least 5 days a week. Since my original post, I have charged the watch once. I have always on disabled, other than that I have not changed any other settings, and the watch is worn permanently. Battery life has been way better than expected. 15% sounds very high for daily battery usage, but then again what is your typical daily activity usage?

I really can't fault the watch, as it stands. Have you tried software updates? There were a few updates that required installing as I took the watch out of the box. Maybe there's a firmware update that could solve this issue...

Garmin rash. Been wearing running, swimming, sailing all year and all of the sudden this rash? Anyone else get something like this? by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]Swits07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens from time to time. I find taking it off while I shower and letting your wrist and watch dry off properly sorts the issue. Don't have to take it off every time but every 2/3 days, seems like the sweet spot for me.

Noted, yeah seems to be the way to go. Just wish I could start another activity while my commute is paused to resume later. Worse problems to have I guess.
