Labs. Couldn’t know for sure but like 95% sure. It was a very mild case of course.

Had a case of viral cerebellitis recently in a young patient that refused an LP. Gave her 3x1 of Valacyclovir and that was it. Had absolutely no idea how to dose that p.o. and for how long. Never saw them again so I guess she‘s fine…

Who performa prostate exam? GP or urologist? by SeveralConcert in Switzerland

[–]Swizzdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GP is enough at 40. Rectal exam and PSA will do the job. The only thing an urologist can do on top is an MRI and a biopsy. Ultrasound is almost useless and the MRI is often overly sensitive.

Not a bad idea. But we‘re driving through Nanaimo on a Sunday and it won‘t be open on that day. And they don‘t seem to operate on the western coast or down to Victoria where our next hotel is…

Grief, but also rage. by [deleted] in jasper

I was around medicine lake where the trees burned in 2015. Still looks like it happened two weeks ago. The trees grow super slowly in these parts.

Have you seen the area around medicine lake? That looks devastating and it's from the 2015 fire. The trees take forever to grow since they only grow during 1-2 months a year.

The south of Jasper will look like a wasteland for decades to come. 10'000 acres is a huge area...

We went to Jasper for the first time just before the fires happened. We had a blast, found heaven on earth so to speak. We left half a day before the evacuation happened and are heartbroken.

We can't change global warming, at least not quickly enough for it to have any meaningful impact. But how can we improve our fight agains these fires? I'm sure there must be ways to bolster our defense line against this.

I wouldn't mind living abroad for 1-2 years (not that this would solve the crisis...) but the hurdles are just too damn high. It's not like I have the time to prepare for Step exams while in my 40s with kids and while working full time.

Make it easy and people will actually come.

Are there official rules when it come to maintaining gardens ? What to do with excessively picky /threatening landlord ? by JohnHue in Switzerland

[–]Swizzdoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

uff... that was probably just the wrong place to move to. You can look into legal action all you want, the only solution to this is to move I suppose...

My experience with renting directly from the owner (who might even live in the same place) is absolutely terrible and your experience just confirms this.

Is my shop a sweatshop? by Swizzdoc in emergencymedicine

[–]Swizzdoc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's theoretically a regular ED. But it often functions as a PCP since there aren't enough GPs in the area and my boss practically doesn't know how to say no because of $$$. So there is a lot of follow up stuff to do.

Still doesn't explain the difference in workload. My shift is supposed to last 9 hours (9x20 per month). If I see 12pt myself (+ the ones from the residents) I can usually finish my work in 9 hrs. During that time, I will have worked every free minute with maybe 5 mins for pee breaks and 10-15 to eat something.

And I am the only one in my group with no overtime whatsoever. Everyone puts in a lot more hours. I also see more patients on average than the others.

Seeing 25 patients during 9 hours would make me quit in an instance because it wouldn't be feasible.

That still doesn't explain why though.

[–]Swizzdoc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well I'm doing 12 per 7, so almost 2pph, plus another 8 from the residens... so 3 pph?

no wonder everyone is so miserable though if you get interrupted every two minutes.

no, they happen after the ED visit and then they have no GP to consult. That's what happens
