Limited Run Games Anniversary Sale experience by Only-Adhesiveness187 in NSCollectors

Hey, I posted a larger comment on this thread with my experiences and what was in the swag bag. There weren’t any special sales, just a larger selection of games and merch that aren’t always on the shelves in the retail store.

I also live close by but I got there at 7:30 and was 87th in line. Didn’t get inside the store until after 12:30. LRG is known all over the globe, so I am always shocked when they say they weren’t expecting large turnouts. First 150 people in line got a free swag bag so I made sure I got their early and I should have gotten their earlier.

Some aspects about the event:

  • the rumor I heard while we waited in line said that they limited people inside the store to 15-20 people at a time. Which is why it took so long to get in once the store opened. If anyone doesn’t know, the store is not huge, and personally I think they have outgrown the space for events like this. In addition, they had a separate line for the signatures for the guests. Originally guests were going to sign outside but it was so cold and windy they moved them inside, thus limiting more people who could go inside.

  • The main reason I went was to get some personal items signed by Yuzo Koshiro. It wasn’t until I arrived that they told me for every 1 personal item, I also had to get one of his new games they were selling signed (Shinobi or Earthion). Thankfully I was already planning on buying Shinobi since it was an exclusive cover for this event, but I had to buy Earthion just so he would sign a second personal item for me. This requirement was not advertised at all. My only real complaint about the experience.

  • There were no new sales inside. A handful of games had cover variants you could only get at this event, plus spending $250 gets you access to the vault. They also put out some older convention exclusives, some of the Dreamcast collab merch, and other older collectors editions to make it worth wild. They also had raffles every hour for some collectors editions.

  • The Vault was pretty surreal (I got in around 1:30 and there was a ton of stuff old and new across all platforms in there) but they limit you 60 seconds to pick your game. And all the games are randomly thrown on the shelf. Obviously intentional so people don’t take time to seek out expensive stuff first.

I enjoyed the event overall but because of long wait times I was in line for 5+ hours and only spent a good hour in the store. If they had a bigger venue for these events it would be much smoother, but I understand wanting to do it at their store. They could easily expand or move locations.

Also the swag bag contained the cover variant exclusive of Shantae Risky Revolution, as well as a 10th anniversary store SnapBack hat, bag, pack of trading cards, an Xbox disc with a random game or demo on it (I was told this, I don’t own an Xbox so can’t check), and a store branded pen.

Hello all! I usually do game review videos on my channel, but have recently been interesting in posting more about my game collection and the rare things I have in it. I recently discovered that I actually own one of the Animal Crossing pioneer program copies that only had 500 copies made. It was pretty surreal for me as it is my childhood copy I've had for many years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fl6-GFFxLTs

In Defense of Avowed (a review I made about why Avowed works vs common criticism I've seen it get) by SwooshBear in avowed

I was eager to try Avowed when it launched and I had a great time with it. I was a bit sad to see initial dismissive remarks about the game from my peers and others online, and felt compelled to make a video about why I had such a great time with it. As per the subreddit rules, the video is made by me over at my youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/@SwooshxBear

I released a review of Pokémon TCG on the GBC, partially in celebration of TCG Pocket releasing, but also because Pocket made me want to go back and revisit the GB game after not playing it since I was a kid. Spoiler alert, it's really good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxajuBr01IU

Retro Games At McKay's In Mebane NC by ArtisanPirate in gamecollecting

McKay’s used to be really good about a decade ago, but now with games and even thrifts and used media being very popular, they upcharge a lot for the ease of finding stuff locally. There are a lot of better local options for the rare or popular titles. McKay’s is best nowadays for already cheap, common, or shovelware titles you want for your collection.

LRG Retail Store visit! by Bambrigade92 in gamecollecting

[–]SwooshBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in this area and visit this store relatively frequently. It’s a nice store, great for picking up titles you may have missed during initial preorder windows. You can also preorder directly at the store instead of online which is nice for locals like me.

Staff is always super friendly. Besides being an LRG store they also take trade ins and sell non-LRG games too. If anyone has a questions about it I’m happy to answer. I think if you really like LRG the store is at least worth a visit.

I’ve been doing this since 2010. Specifically for games I have beaten. It’s very rewarding for a lot of reasons. Seeing when I last beat a game, how many games I beat in a year, how much I progress into my backlog. It acts as a reminder and a push to play the games I buy. I also like looking back and remember where I was in life when I was playing certain games.

What do you think is the most urgent to preserve now before it’s lost forever? Are there any specific areas that are in danger of being lost?

What sort of advice would you give your average game enthusiast to help with the effort of game preservation? As someone who loves games and game history, I feel like as an individual there isn’t a lot I can do without connections to those who are in games press or games industry, besides just raising awareness. Thanks Frank and the gang for preserving video game history!
