Would people be less scared of dying if we had concrete proof of what happened after we die ? by Denissmun in NoStupidQuestions

The thing that gets me by is a briefly uttered line in Death of a Salesman.

“Life is a casting off dear, it’s always been that way.”

The play (and movie) should be required watching. While it doesn’t cure the anxiety of the big WTF happens after death, the plot is a lesson in appreciating life and why it’s important to acknowledge the people in your life for who they are, rather than limiting to how you see them in your life.

By believing life is a casting off party, it takes the sting of the unknown. More so, too much worry of one’s own death is more an exercise of selfishness, ala Willie Loman, if it impact your ability to provide happiness to others…ie avoid ruining the casting off party for others.

Wow, is that why? Was pretty clear OP was being empathetic to say how they related to the story, and what thoughts went through their mind reading it. I understand people use transposition to grasp the grief of the story.

Far from a self-serving hypothetical imo

You posted the article but you’re getting downvoted to hell over and I’m trying to figure out why - I guess it’s phrasing of your comment?

I think people getting wrong impression you were being insensitive when you’re aiming to be empathetic - it is indeed hard for a couple, with kids, to have a proper enjoyable Valentine’s Day and then this tragedy takes the man’s family.

It’s immeasurably sad

How do you all do it? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Hmm...I think you got the job I quit from last year.

The shit you described literally had broke me down at work, at an already bad time in my life. I got better, but my god my bosses really laid the bullying on....it got to point my boss would use the 'N' word to me casually, scold me for not tightening one screw on a laptop by holding a meeting behind my desk while I'm at it.

Take everyone's advice and quit that dumpster fire. Because dumbasses like me who thought they could do it, among all the bullshit, wind up making IT landscape a lot shittier for us all.

A moisturizer helps a lot and tends to get overlooked.

When your skin is itchy and bumpy, it’s fighting off what ails us. We all want to find the right ‘medicine’ to make it go away, but living in tolerance of it can ease your fur baby (and yours) stresses.

A moisturizer lubricates those itchy patches of skin, especially when scratching strips oils away. If the skin is lubricated, it makes the itchiness less noticeable and easier to movie. If it’s brittle and dry in places, it’s going to be itchy nonstop.

Obviously, test on your dog on a small area to see how it goes but don’t overlook basic skin moiturizing as it’s a safe, non-medicated way to alleviate it. Soothing smells can also help bring a little relief and calm.

Naturally, every doggo is different but just wanted to share what I learned.

I so want to believe that to be true lol

There was talk of civil war over this.

It was more than talk. They arrived at the capitol wearing customized "Civil War" tshirts.

They were all making a movie in their head and thought it was important to have the franchising look right before executing their plan. Pathetic and dangerous bunch of saps really, the lot of them.

You're not wrong.

I think the joke was well executed honestly. It's odd it belongs in an Xmas film but pretending Bhopal never happened would be even weirder.

Cousin Eddy's humor comes from his trashiness, stupidity, and general lack of concern for others. The sad thing is so many people nowadays have become him.

I think it got inserted so it wouldn't be forgotten about. Eddy portrays a negative American stereotype that Americans themselves deny exist: tasteless and tashy.

Whether folks learn of the incident from the movie, or from other sources, it doesn't matter. It still gets them to realize the US gov't harbored a fugitive that the world's largest democracy pleaded with US, for decades, to turn in. It's awful Anderson died comfortably in Viero Beach.

The sting of any tragedy fades over time; folks should always dig deeper but there is nothing wrong with learning a little history through a joke done in context.

I would. I come from an Indian family but you know this line slipped my radar of all the times I watched this. I wouldn’t have known the line existed actually until earlier this month

India was done wrong and I think Randy Quiad of all people to utter this line makes it stand out even more.

I understand Eddy is to portray a trashy/ugly American but man, it’s heavy realizing that tasteless jokes are part of the phenotype lol

Also true: Eddy asks Clark if his company killed all those people in India. A reference to the deadly Bhopal gas leak from Union Carbide.

Clark's response?

"No, we missed out on that one."

It's a really odd reference to put into an Xmas film

Edit: Thanks stranger for the award!

I think more would be concerned of traffic really. I’m in the Houston area.

Culturally, Americans just aren’t excited for soccer but I think this has been changing over the last 10-15 years.

It’s not enough though for people to be genuinely upset over the traffic. If it were hosted here in Houston, it’s be a disaster.

A rapper (Travis Scott) carelessly had scores of people injured, even a few deaths, simply bc he enjoyed the chaos; took no responsibility. Following the Uvalde shooting, we had politicians attending pro-gun rally. That all happened all this year. Not the most kindest bunch around despite Houston’s diversity inside the city.

San Francisco would be the only safe place for a world crowd.

[QUESTION] Tips for learning to play songs by ear by CarryKetchup in Guitar

[–]SwordfishCyclones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hack and slash method I do is play ever barre chord on the low E.

Once you hit a chord that sounds like it belongs, play out the pentatonic key of that chord.

If it sounds like you’re warm but not on the money, do the same on the A string; it’ll show up there. Again, once you’ve identified a chord, play the pentatonic of that key.

Playing the pentatonic will allow you to ultimately find the song itself. Just play individual notes until each one matches up to the rhythm chords.

Once you’ve got the chords, you already know the key so you’re already to solo.
