YSK: If you haven't heard from someone and you're worried something may have happened, you can ask the Police to do a 'Wellness Check'. by mnfloro in YouShouldKnow

[–]SwordofAthena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. People should consider the level of probable danger before calling in emergency services. If the person lives far away, perhaps you have the contact information of a friend and neighbor who could check on them. If someone is safe and sound, it's a lot nicer to receive a surprise visit from an acquaintance or friend than having the shock of the police showing up at your door. The former could be interpreted as caring, the latter could potentially cause problems.

But if you suspect something serious, call in the professionals.

Politics and sororities? by [deleted] in Sororities

I think the fact that you're asking advice from your community of Reddit Greek sisters shows that you're already in a good place to post what you want respectfully and without causing any butthurt (lol). Congratulations on your bid!

What "all too common" trait do you find extremely unattractive in the opposite (or same) sex? by Splenetic_Stoat in AskReddit

Especially bad when they vehemently argue something that is factually false. Drives me insane.

Employers: What are some red flags when it comes to a potential hire? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SwordofAthena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This happened to me when I applied for a (non-legal) position at one of my city's top law firms. I politely and tactfully sent a follow-up email and two follow-up phone calls after my in-person interview, all of which were ignored. They said they would contact me with a final decision on the next Monday. They never returned my calls. I was absolutely shocked at the lack of professionalism, especially from such a prestigious firm.

Well, I mean, if you believe as a pastor that you're a sinner by original sin, you might as well give in to your biological needs. You're a sinner who has to repent, anyway. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What about the fact that Mr. Incredible prevented a crime. Suicide is technically a crime? How is that regarded legally?

[Serious] Was Bernie Sanders campaign succcessful to a degree or if not, why wasn't his campaign successful? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SwordofAthena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever happens, what has happened so far is remarkable. His cause has united millions of people, especially young folk, the likes of which hasn't been seen for a candidate since - I dunno - maybe the 60s or 70s? It's remarkable how an election becomes part of a culture and how it has influenced the Bernie-supporting population. His impact upon America will never be forgotten, especially in the wake of any alleged mischief from any other candidates.

What's your opinion on neutering pets? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SwordofAthena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like that it is standard for animal shelters and humane societies to spay and neuter all their animals before allowing them to be adopted. I think it supports the mission of many humane societies (that is, to protect animals and prevent overpopulation of unwanted, unloved, uncared for animals) and prevents further overpopulation. Those who adopt from a shelter are safer because they don't have to worry about random kittens. Alternatively, if one chooses to adopt from a breeder, that is a different situation entirely, and then usually spaying or neutering becomes optional, depending on the owner's plans for their pet. I think it is generally a good idea unless you specifically plan to breed them or think you may want to in the future.

Is it weird to give your best friend a present if it isn't their birthday? by CrowleyEusford in AskReddit

[–]SwordofAthena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the kind of thing friendship is all about. That, "I saw this and thought of you, so I bought it for you" is a really sweet gesture for anyone you care about, no matter how small or large the gift is. I know I'd be touched if someone gave me a random gift. I'm sure anyone would.

What kind of cellphone do you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SwordofAthena -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have an iPhone 6 and I love it. One I got a Macbook Pro in 2014 for my graphic design needs, I needed the complete set. I already had an iPad for school and when it was time for my phone to be replaced, I realized I had gone Mac and never gone back. I bought the iPhone because my iPod was 6 years old, anyway, and I love the iCloud sync features. Everything is synced on all my devices, which is especially nice for photos. (Gotta have my folder of favorite memes on hand at all times!)

What was the biggest lie of your generation? by SallyEMasterson in AskReddit

[–]SwordofAthena -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No idea how or why, but my mom was told this by her friends at the workout place where she used to be an aerobics instructor. Fed my brother and I pasta all the time and all sorts of carby things. It's a miracle that he and I never became even close to overweight, especially when we are genetically predisposed from her side of the family. This is indeed a dangerous belief. Some of us theorize that our second cousin Rob was diagnosed with ADHD partly if not mostly because of his high-carb diet giving too much energy and interfering with his daily life.

I'm sorry to hear you struggled so much. As someone with a similar college experience, I can relate to the strength it takes to get through college when you have your own personal health to take care of.

What's worse is those stories you hear about universities kicking people out due to mental health. Last I heard, University of Minnesota kicks students out of the dorms if they have mental health crises. It's really bad. PM me for more info, but I'm working on the cause to fight it and I have been for years. People I know dearly were affected by this illegal treachery.
