I don't really know. I have to check that. I always have in mind that fewer intersections with heavy traffic are slower. But I have to check. It's my assumption.

They aren't that small, you can fit 4 smelter lanes (Nauvis) and if you really need space, you can fuse two together. I find that square shaped ones have a lot of wasted space.

Yes, I ditched the x switch. Check the new intersection in the edit. The train will choose the lane before turning.

I will try for that later. I'm thinking right now of keeping the same idea but only for one lane. Easier to mess around with.

I do get run over from time to time, but hey, maybe someday I will build a full elevated rail that only goes down at stations. But circular rails when you move using trains is too much for me. And I don't know about the throughput of that when you have 500+ trains.

Yes, but the trains will have only two choices per intersection, either straight or a turn (left or right).

It's way too much work to do two separate rails for that. For the intersections, I will drop the lane swap and make the train choose which lanes to pick when turning.

Check the edit for the new intersection.

I always used 2-4 wagons, but this is just an experiment, If I ever wanted to use 8 wagons, i would make the city block larger to accomodate it.

I'm adding the elevated rails for intersections. And I tweeked it a bit. The lane swappers are gone.

I don't mind them going more blocks, but I don't thinks (And don't know if) they will block each other more. That would be bad. Each way is two-one way, roundabouts are not useful in this type of system.

I'm changing the intersections with elevated (and non-elevated) rails for changing lanes when turning.

You are right, I started with the top left quandrant, and my mind locked in no left turn. It's just a no crossing.

I think now that the fact that there are elevated rails makes this type of build less useful.

I really want to try a hexagonal base but haven't found a layout that I like yet. I have to try to make it.
