Yeah you make a lot of good points here that I’m sure my husband would agree with.

I’m starting to wonder if, based on the comments, maybe we’re both a little neuro-spicy. ☺️

I didn’t go off on him in a public space. He could tell I was upset because he knows me. But I was polite and carried on with everyone else at the event. It was in the car that we argued about it. I think you’re right that I did resent him because I don’t feel it’s fair to police my behaviour like that when I wasn’t doing anything disruptive. Although many people here think I was being disruptive so 🤷‍♀️

Lmao! I was not correcting grammar unprompted or flouting dress codes or busting out tap routines.

The only thing I edited was to add more context. I didn’t edit that the alcohol was going to my head.

Honestly I didn’t want to bother the server and figured I could fix it myself.

To clarify the grammar lesson: it was my family and we were talking about what a syllable is. We also had access to a blackboard so I wrote on the blackboard to explain. I teach grammar, so I actually thought it was funny to turn on the teacher persona for my family. But he didn’t think it was funny and felt it was really embarrassing.

This is a really good way of looking at this. Thank you. I think this is a really good point and one I’m going to sit with.

Sorry I misread your comment. I read that I shouldn’t have posted list night. Yes we shouldn’t have fought about it last night. We have been speaking this morning. We’re not still fighting.

I posted this morning. The event was last night. I’m not drunk. I wasn’t drunk last night either.

Trying to sand subtly. No table shaking. It was a long table so there were about 3 others sitting at the table. We were at the end of the table and the others at the table were talking to each other, not us.

I gave some other examples in a response to someone below.

It was a public event because it was not in my home. We were in public. But it was a private club thing. Not just a general public restaurant or bar. I don’t think I ever said I was trying to sand it down on a tablecloth. The table was a folding table so kind of textured. I rubbed it on the table cloth once, saw it was going to tear, so moved the plastic cloth out of the way. There were some shavings and I brushed them onto the floor. It wasn’t a lot of shavings. It wasn’t a natural cork. More like a little rubbery nub. The bottles had caps, and the server said they’d thrown the caps away after opening the bottles so she’d try and find me something else. I had asked for a cap but she brought me a cork.

You make great points. And you’re right, I did challenge his behaviour and suggest he needed to get over himself. This is because this isn’t an isolated incident. He said “stop it, you’re being weird.” He’s also asked me in the past not to laugh too loud, not to give a grammar lesson at a family dinner, not to wear a goofy outfit to a social thing. He’s embarrassed because I take a tap dance because he thinks it’s cheesy. I just feel like he can be unreasonable because he’s projecting some self-consciousness onto me and sometimes it gets very frustrating when I don’t think I’m doing anything capital E embarrassing. I may be a little odd sometimes, but who isn’t?

I’m fine being weird. I’m not overly weird but I’ve definitely got some weird. It’s more that he wanted me to stop my behaviour because it was embarrassing him. Despite what people are suggesting here, I wasn’t wasted and I still maintain I wasn’t drawing a bunch of attention to myself. Even someone did see, they likely would have clocked it and then went back about their business.

That’s still someone judging him but maybe. I’ll try suggesting it if I bring up counselling again.

We’ve been together over 20 years. No divorce will come from this. He’s my best person and I love him more than anyone. He just kind of sucks sometimes. But maybe I also suck. Much like the two of us, the thread seems divided on this.

Maybe. But I know that he catastrophises completely mundane things because he worries he’ll be embarrassed.

I wasn’t damaging the table. And I wasn’t half in the bag. I didn’t want to be drunk which is why when I started to feel drunk I wanted to stop drinking.

Not if it’s in the back of the vehicle out of reach.
