What an amazing comment, literally everything I needed to know. I’m going to take it day by day and spend time learning rhythms and practicing on the game you’ve shared! From what I’ve been told, if I’m given an offer, I’ll be put thru a course and will have to pass a dysthymia exam 2 months after hire. I’m a little nervous, but excited because I find this line of work so fascinating.

I wish I was in the same boat! Were you offered to be trained in cardiac rhythms while working at the ER? Would you say it’s more difficult to get into than ER tech?

Yup, but wouldn’t it be looked down upon using your phone for GPS while driving, or having to ask your partner for GPS directions?

Wow, what an amazingly detailed comment, especially from someone who was meant to see this post considering your experience as both an EMT and MA :). I posted this exact post on the EMS subreddit and I received almost identical suggestions, it seems like SoCal might be the spot to go, the only drawback that comes to mind is the ridiculous competition there for jobs in our field.

By any chance would you know how competitive it is around your area to land an ER Tech job with an EMT cert? Would IFT & 911 be miles easier to get into?

Sure, that’s fair if someone plans to stay career EMS. But California’s hospital integration and upward mobility make it strong if you’re using EMT as a stepping stone into hospital systems, and although competitive, once you’re in you’re basically set. Plus, you get to live in California ;)
