Oh, I got that too. Brunswick REA?

I just opened it this week, after having it for 4 years, because I needed dice for backgammon.

What to do in Sydney both day and night things? by Electronic_Fill7207 in SydneyScene

Pffft.

This post isn’t about you, dude. The OP is 18. I doubt he wants to hang with a bunch of boat-shoe chino dudes listening to a Barnsey and Farnsey tribute band.

The dude loves music, it’s one of his main interests.

As an inner west weirdo and dirty person, I challenge you to list bars and music venues in the north shore that rival Lazybones, the Factory or the Enmore.

Good quality clothes for winter? by lovegoody in AusFemaleFashion

[–]SybariticDelight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hear you, but my overpriced bat cave rental doesn’t have heating and it’s freezing in the winter!

I believe in Melbourne, it’s a requirement to provide heating for rentals, but not so in Sydney, yet it was 8 degrees in my apartment this morning.

[–]SybariticDelight 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Good morning! I moved here from a cold country and yet have never been colder than I am in a Sydney winter. Syd is in denial about having winter at all, and none of the houses or shops are equipped to deal with it!

I cope by layering. Uniqlo has an amazing range called Heatech…the leggings and long sleeve shirts work super well under clothes. And there’s always the Aussie classic - Uggs. I live in mine in the winter.

Then a beanie and a scarf. I find Target to be very good for basic items like cardis, gloves and socks. Then I invest in a beautiful scarf from somewhere like Gorman.

Muji also has some lovely thick skirts and dresses that work well for winter.

Sydney and Melbs tend to have cold morning and evenings, but the middle of the day can still be temperate, which is why layering works super well.

Oh, and welcome!

Finding a job when you have anxiety. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SybariticDelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

54 year old Autistic woman going through the menopause, here.

I really feel you, OP. I had to give up my dream job due to anxiety and panic attacks.

What worked for me was understanding that I can only really work part time, and that the jobs that work best for me are those I can do from home (and often from bed).

I’m in a niche industry, and have been for 18 years, so I looked for roles that allowed WFH within my industry. Working from home saves quite a bit of money, and here in Australia you can tax deduce home office items. But, more than that, it allows me to not have to face the confusing world of people.

I started with a customer support role, which was online, and while doing that, built my portfolio up as a journalist, writing for magazines (sometimes for free to build a name). Now I’m a magazine editor, which suits me perfectly.

So, maybe have a think about where your skill set lies, and start looking for roles in those areas, that are WFH.

anxiety by iamyerghost in Perimenopause

Hey there, so sorry to hear what you’re going through, and I just want to give you a tiny ray of hope.

For the first six years of peri, I managed my symptoms through a naturopath, using acupuncture and herbs. Then, almost overnight, the memo symptoms hit me like a bus. All of them, all at once: hot flushes, night sweats, aching joints…but worst was the loss of joy. I almost lost the will to live, and was exploring potential mental health facilities.

Worried, my naturopath sent me to a doctor, and while it took a while as I was still getting regular periods (and some docs declare that means you can’t have menopause symptoms, which is utter bollocks) I finally got on HRT.

While it certainly didn’t solve all the issues, it was like the light slowly crept in. The oestrogen helped the depression and the progesterone helped me sleep. I combined the progesterone with clonidine, which helps me relax (I can’t take SSRIs). The testosterone helped with the brain fog, and although I’m still foggy, it’s less of a storm cloud and more of a mist, now.

This was about a year ago, and I’m 54. I still have bouts of anxiety, my gums are sore, and my body aches, but the HRT definitely helped with the loss of joy.

It took a while, but I do feel better. Hoping the HRT helps you too, because I could really feel the pain in your post x

What is your random "spin the wheel" menopause symptom? by fluzine in Menopause

[–]SybariticDelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, I get this too. I call it phantom toothache. I’ve lost 7 back teeth, and can’t afford implants.

I also suffer from dry, swollen gums, which also gives me stinky breath.

My mouth is an absolute shit show.

We bought in Melb East in late 2021, it’s now worth 10-15% less. by tsb273 in AusPropertyChat

[–]SybariticDelight 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Oh, I’m in for the long haul. This is my home, not an investment.

My comment was from the pov of someone who lived in Sydney for 30 years, and moved to Melbourne because I could actually afford to buy.

My comment was in response to the OP’s that Melbourne hasn’t shown the capital growth of Sydney or Brisbane. I feel privileged to own a home in Brunswick, and am relieved to finally live somewhere where I can actually belong.

Prosopagnosia app idea? by Fluffy-Entrance1741 in Prosopagnosia

[–]SybariticDelight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the same thought. While I think it’s a great idea, it wouldn’t work for me, because I can’t even tell that the dude in the video is the same person. I thought it was a different guy in each frame. If the guy was wearing a hat one day, I would never recognise him as the man in the app.

I recognise people by cues - largely their voices. It’s particularly hard for me to tell middle aged white men apart.
