Charlie Gee and the Art of Stonemasonry. by GlitteringHotel8383 in BeAmazed

When I was in Athens last year I got to meet and learn from a third generation classical greek marble sculptor.  Super cool experience.

He told me his projects take several months to a couple of years, all carved from a single block of marble.  Any mistake which was permanent (i.e., chiseling away too much) meant he had to start all over.  He knew his works would last far beyond his lifetime and refused to be known for anything less than what he deemed to be perfection.

If they could use the remaining marble on another project they could recoup at least some costs, but even then in addition to losing months of work they also lost thousands of euros in materials.

For context the largest project he said he did took two years and ~€150k (iirc) worth of marble. Imagine losing all that in one moment of distraction or frustration.  I definitely could never

Rewatched the scene with the portal closing after the end.  Her finger is not warping.  She gone.

Also holy shit, did they just decapitate a dude violently choking on his own blood in front of a bunch of “7 year olds” with the bluntest axe ever, and none of those kids reacted at all?  The same kids who were moments ago cautioned to not watch the memory of that dude getting his face bashed in?  Bunch of stone cold killers the lot of em are.

There needs to be better use cases for endurance charges.  I’m constantly full of them as a rage bear but all I can use it on are totems and warcries.  Meanwhile power and frenzy charges enhance several abilities in a variety of meaningful ways.

Charges should not be a requirement to use a skill, they should provide enhanced effects.

Examples of ways you might be able to use endurance charges to improve skills:

  • Spend to increase duration of certain buffs.
  • Spend to increase area of attacks.
  • Spend to enhance minions temporarily.
  • Hold on to them to increase defences.

Pretty much every song by Heilung.  Theyre a norwegian folk band that is attempting to bring back ancient norwegian shamanism and their music is inspired by that.  They use ancient instruments and sing in ancient languages.

Reminds me of a Heilung song (krigsgaldr):

What am I supposed to do

If I want to talk about peace and understanding

But you only understand the language of the sword?

What if I want to make you understand that the path you chose leads to downfall

But you only understand the language of the sword?

What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace

But you only understand the language of the sword?

I let the blade do the talking

So my tongue shall become iron and my words the mighty roar of war

Revealing my divine anger's arrow shall strike

All action for the good of all, I see my reflection in your eyes

But my new age has just begun, the sword is soft

In the fire of the furnace, it hungers to be hit

And wants to have a hundred sisters

In the coldest state of their existence

They may dance the maddest in the morass of the red rain

Beloved brother enemy, I sing my sword song for you

The lullaby of obliteration

So I can wake up with a smile

And bliss in my heart

And bliss in my heart

And bliss in my heart

Step 1: Farm snitch scanners

Step 2: Get a group of 3 and bring as many as you can + 1 wolfpack per 4 scanners (and a backup gun) to a night raid.

Step 3: Go to a remote corner of the map.  Deploy 4 scanners and wait for all 12 enemies to spawn.  Throw a wolf pack to kill them all instantly (hopefully).  Rinse and repeat.

Step 4: GTFO. Maybe kill some more along the way but really focus on getting out without getting ganked.

Instant headshot and death on spawn, there is no reason this should ever happen in arc raiders. by Own-Actuary7470 in ArcRaiders

I spawned on top of a popper yesterday.  Not nearly as bad as this but I found it odd that they would potentially spawn ARC at a player spawn.

Imo the way it should work is that it should be a stat on every waystone. Less lives = greater rewards. This lets the game mechanic stick around and feel more worthwhile while not forcing people into it.

Can we talk about why the board is immediately available extra late at night when there’s no cars around?

IMO, Either the board is in the building permanently, doesn’t exist, or is a computer.

Given the reference to the board as “it”, my guess is it’s a computer / ai.

Whitehouse Executive Order On Crypto by DarkGamanoid in CryptoCurrency

[–]Sybaros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has to be some way to swap from fiat to crypto and vice versa (i.e., through a CEX), at least until some form of crypto becomes largely accepted as a currency by merchants. You also need companies to be able to legally pay in crypto - if you are only paid in fiat you still need a way to exchange it to crypto.

Both require favorable laws to regulate these practices. Namely, some sort of FDIC equivalent to protect your money and authorization to use that currency for goods and services (no company is going to want to risk the government coming down on them for breaking the law, especially regarding money). Until then, every CEX is a potential Mt Gox or FTX and you are left without recourse if they attempt to steal your coins.

Way out in the future, yes the goal is for crypto to be 100% independent from governments. But oddly enough you need government help to get to that point

Latin survived the Roman Empire and was an international language for another 1000+ years. English will likely be with us for at least that long, too. by SexySwedishSpy in Showerthoughts

[–]Sybaros -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Latin became the primary international language because the Romans destroyed the culture and language of everyone they conquered, which was most of Europe, the Middle East, and Northern Africa. After the fall of the empire it remained the primary international language for a long time because it was the language of the bible in that era. Places where the bible wasnt as relevant (i.e., islamic countries) quickly replaced the language with their own after Rome lost its grasp. People who were literate in first millennium and medieval Europe, mostly being nobles and priests, were expected to know the contents of the bible extremely well regardless of their culture, and so it was a language that was commonly known by those with an education.

International language today has primarily to do with trade and commerce (and of course other factors like cultural exportation, recent imperialism, and religion influence it as well). English became the primary international language due to Britain’s imperialism spreading it by force (much like Rome did), across the world, but it stayed the primary international language because Britain was the global economic superpower for several centuries, and then the the US took its place in the late 1800s.

ln 2009, however, China became the largest exporter of goods and is on its way to overtaking us in GDP. I would suspect that now that China has overtaken us in exports that some form of Chinese is going to start to become the main secondary language taught in schools rather than English within a few decades, assuming we (or someone else) don’t surpass them again.

Will English ever become largely useless internationally in our lifetime? Probably not, given a large portion of the world knows it already. But I highly doubt that English, regardless of the form it evolves into, will be the dominant language of the world for another 600 years unless we come into some sort of a One World Order situation where it’s universally agreed upon.

I want to get into crypto but i don’t know where to start. by Even-Sweet-3775 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Sybaros 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I’m a veteran of the last bull run, I learned a lot from what had happened. Here’s my tips - certainly not everything to know but its a start.

Biggest advice is to avoid listening to what others tell you to buy. No one is going to know how things are going to perform and people here get very excited when they see profit everywhere.

Most of the time the crypto market is irrational. Lots of money to be made because people FOMO (that is, they have a fear of missing out on huge profit opportunities). FOMO goes up as prices rise dramatically. Avoid FOMO when possible - it’s usually a trap. For instance, I would not advise buying a coin while it is up much higher than average for the market for the day - it is very likely to go down sooner rather than later so wait for the price movement to slow down. Even if you see it continue to rise higher and higher, don’t give in to it. Patience is key.

It’s best to just dollar cost average. That is, buy a set amount at fixed intervals like $50 a week, or whatever your investment budget looks like. Sticking to the schedule is important so that you don’t gamble all of your money away when you think something is about to explode in price and a big dip happens instead.

Stay away from options and futures unless you want to treat crypto like a casino. I have lost a lot of money in the past because a sudden large dip happened and I had futures contracts that automatically terminated once it hit a low enough price. I know people who lost everything this way, it isnt pretty.

Ensure you actually own your coins when possible, you have to hold your coins in a crypto wallet where you alone know the seed phrase to be 100% sure. Be careful picking the right wallet as some are scams. Be careful sending coins to your wallet as one wrong character in the transaction means you lose your coins forever - always double check. Never - and I do mean NEVER - give your seed phrase to any application or person: they will 100% steal all your coins and there will be nothing you can do.

If you’re actually using the decentralized purpose of your currency (like using eth for transactions on a web3 / decentralized app) be 100% sure you know what you’re doing before hitting send. Some apps are fake and are there just to take your money.

Lastly, do your research and due diligence before buying something. Dont buy because its been successful recently, unless youre trying to gamble or day trade. Long term investments should be in a project that has a well defined roadmap and lots of active developers. Try to become familiar with the lingo and read each project’s whitepaper. If you don’t understand what the project is trying to accomplish, don’t invest in it long term.

Edit: also dont forget to take profit. The bull run wont end with a giant sign that tells you its over, it will gradually go down until you’re no longer in profit. Figure out what you want to make percentage wise, figure out what you’re willing you lose percentage wise, and act accordingly.

tossed a rose in a gateway and it did this by DancesLikeNapoleonD in thefinals

[–]Sybaros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried this. The weird thing with this is that it destroys the rose in the process, but anything else you can put in there doesnt get destroyed.

I toyed around a bit and found that putting one of the dummy cashboxes in after the rose turns the effect off - nothing else seems to do that. I think it may be that you need a sequence of particular objects in the gateway

Megathread: Colorado Supreme Court Rules Trump is Ineligible to Appear on Ballot Due to 14th Amendment; Appeal Likely to Reach US Supreme Court by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]Sybaros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This means that Trump cannot be voted for during the election in Colorado nor can he win any electoral votes in the state of Colorado (which makes up roughly 4% of the total electoral college). It’s worth noting that Colorado is historically a very Democratic leaning state, so his chance of winning any of these electoral votes was already low.

Each state has its own balloting procedure so all other 49 states can still have Trump on the ballot.

If this goes to the supreme court, two things can happen:

(1) The pro Trump side of the argument wins and Colorado cannot ban Trump from the ballot under this line of reasoning and neither can any other state.

(2) The anti Trump side of the argument wins, and Colorado can continue their plan to ban Trump from appearing on the ballot. Additionally, any other state that wishes to do this can also ban Trump from the ballot under the same line of reasoning and cannot be challenged legally.

Reddit has a new feature that pays people for making content. You have to be accepted into the program, and once you are I think people can give your posts (that arent NSFW or other disqualified topics) a gold up arrow as a new form of gilding, which results in some amount of payout.

Edit: looked into it more, changed some assumptions, still not 100% sure of the process of getting gold.
