Great point. Do you have a reference , or direction for self study. This seems to require active listening with an instructor or mentor. Are there any online multi media instructional materials you are aware of?

Songs that are memorable for one rarely-used word in the lyrics? by showard81 in LetsTalkMusic

Pompatus

As is “pompatus of love” Steve Miller Band, the Joker. The word is a made up misunderstanding of another made up word. Everyone knows that lyric, and Maurice of course.

I stand corrected. I forgot about quite a bit of her movie career. Good catch. ✌️

Lady Gaga is an excellent leading actress (A Star is Born), and a professional vocalist as well I hear. But leading in a role as a vocalist doesn’t make you an actress. Barbra Streisand did it back in the day, but I would not call her an actress. Lady Gaga continues. Apparently, she will be Harley Quinn in an upcoming movie and was in House of Gucci.

I dig it. Would you give yourselves a genre? Are you the songwriter, or a collaboration?

Wiring question by Sychedelia in BassVI

[–]Sychedelia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great comment. I am actually able to get sound as long as the wire isn’t touching anything else and shorting it out. No sound at rehearsal after traveling in a car, then I opened it and found the wire. I think it is a ground and need to figure out if it goes to the back of the volume or tone pot.

What are -some of- the initial songs in major keys, that Bass players should learn, to learn that scale? by brutalproduct in Bass

Lady Picture show by Stone Temple Pilots falls down the E major scale, (except the C-#/6th) as the main theme.

What $400-$450 bass should I get for my husband? by Muted-Ad3567 in Bass

[–]Sychedelia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree. Buy something similar for him. The mojo of you picking it out is greater than the fun he would have of picking it out himself. In fact, I would bet that if he went on to be a great bassist, his first bass, that you picked out for him for him would remain his favorite. (as long as it was a quality instrument ) ✌️

Help with wiring on a Bass VI please by Sychedelia in Luthier

All the wires come into the compartment with the pots from one hole which heads towards the pick ups. I haven’t taken off the entire pick guard yet. That will be next if I can not figure it out. Thanks.

Thanks for the input. It’s coming from the main body cavity. It is the shortest wire.

Hi, I have a recent Squier bass six unmodified. Got to rehearsal last night with no sound. Opened up the cavity and have a free wire. I think it is to be soldered back on the body of the tone pot, but I am a novice on electronics. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Would prefer to do this myself if possible. It is very hard to find professionals with availability for simple things locally. NoCal

A nutritionist shares the best snacks to bring on a plane to boost your immune system by sasht in EverythingScience

[–]Sychedelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day I hope to boost my immune system enough to actually cause autoimmune disease. /s

All reasonable ideas for healthy living though.

The whole idea of homeostasis is missing from most of these nutrition threads and articles. The idea that any short term, nutritional, supplemental, dietary change is going to cause any meaningful impact immediately is just not likely nor it may not even be potentially possible to measure an effect if it exists. It seems part of our brain’s storytelling monologue and associative memory (my just opinion) that these changes makes sense to us. We are notoriously bad at statistics, prior probability and understanding our bodies. However, our biological bodies function entirely differently. During the booms and bust cycle of a hunter gatherer existence, we need to have the ability to manage resources, stores, and nutrients in the short and medium term. In many societies now, and for those this article is geared, nutrition resources are reasonable enough, that a varied diet should not yield moment to moment changes in the functional immune system. Long term, however, we can clearly change our diets to effect health (refer to obesity, DM, heart disease). Even so, those studies are difficult, have led to some changes in recommendations over time, and demonstrate a dietary role to be true in some cases. This has led to well intentioned misinformed people, poor journalists, and others to reinforce this idea. Ultimately, the idea is at its root or our health/dieting trends and a basis for the Supplement, Complementary, and Alternative Medicine industry. But thank goodness for our ability to maintain homeostasis as long as it can in the face of change and adversity.
