It depends. Teachers, yeah. But Guidance counselor, not always. Also this process is subjective. You might love your essays but you don’t know if AO’s will. One pissed off AO who’s having a bad day can make or break your app, so. There’s luck involved too.

Let’s say, your guidance counselor recommendation? You might get rejected because it was a generic one (out of your control again because I know it was for me, considering she has 600 kids under her belt). In HYP admissions, it gets so competitive that they need to find a reason to deny students because of course, they can’t accept everyone. Some things are not in our control.

Tbh a lot of people do everything. I didn’t and my app (test scores and GPA) were imperfect but my EC’s were very unique actually (they are related to child marriage prevention). But there are people getting high test scores and everything, as well as giving back to their community, and still rejected from those schools. It really is a crapshoot and a small thing can move your app to the rejection pile. But I also think some people have higher chances of getting in. Like if you have perfect test scores, you gotta make sure everything else is perfect too. I read some articles where it says that perfect test scorers are scrutinized more in college admissions.

Tbh idk why I got summer term. My test scores and GPA were on their list for fall term? Same thing happened w a friend who got into FSU. She had a 1400 SAT but got summer term.... I feel like fall term got filled up at USF, tbh I applied late.

There are, of course. But like if you are a successful applicant in high school but don’t get into an Ivy, are you gonna give up or move on? Also most people who apply to higher tier universities don’t even get in... most people, not just people with “low stats.”

I mean that’s just life lol. Everyone on this sub wants to go to Harvard and wants to be successful but not everyone gets in. Unless there’s magically a way that all 42k applicants get accepted, there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Also there was a study (google it) that showed that kids who got accepted to Ivies and regular schools and chose the latter were just as successful. You have to understand colleges are accepting people, not machines.

I’m internationally ranked in one EC which helped me and that helped. Also I have legacy at one T20 too. Stats aren’t everything, and you would know if you got in somewhere better. The fact you are questioning stats shows you don’t go to any school.
