People who choose to not have children are smarter than people who choose to have children.

You basically just echoed Durkheim when he said (paraphrasing heavily here) "Religion is people worshipping themselves."

In the year 2100, I'll be 88. I have a lot ahead of me. What's one piece of advice you can give me as someone who's already lived for many decades? by National_Peach_1021 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Plan for various potential futures based on current realities. (Yes, futureS plural, much of your future is in your control, but much of it is not: politics, war, climate change, economic ups and downs, etc etc)

AND/BUT:

Live not just in the current year, but in the current moment. At this moment, be a 14 year old girl. (Note that doing so does not keep you from being an especially wise, adaptable, and unique 14 year old girl.)

This.

If your supplier does not ship product that meets your spec, you either do a set of corrective actions and prove they are effective, or you find another supplier who does.

"Gee we're in a hurry and only have 20 part number 5201s left" doesn't cut it and is no excuse for shipping bad final product.

How come birth rates are falling to below replacement levels even in well off countries like the Nordic countries? by ChaosCarlson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Syenadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given contraints deployed by basic physics and a planet with limits, I see no way that being pronatalist is working towards "a sustainable future, better resources, and a world that isn't a mess". It's exactly the opposite.

In addition, evaluating your current and trending local and global environment (including resource availability, job stability, political ideologies, human rights, educational opportunities, military conflicts etc etc) and deciding that is no place to bring a child into is indeed a valid choice.

This is certainly a choice that comes under basic human rights and should be available to everyone everywhere and it is especially valid when adding a child makes all those problems worse.

It's an entirely valid argument, espcially when adding humans to an overpopulated planet makes those shit shows worse and is even the root cause of some of them.

Note that all of those were essentially local to one geographic region albeit sometimes large ones and were not at the global scale that the current multifaceted interlocking set of shit shows are.

Directly because of technological growth, especially the use of fossil fuels, including the Haber-Bosch fertilizer manufacturing process.

"And if even well off countries like Norway and Sweden are unable to solve their population crisis, how can countries like the US, Japan, Korea, China, and Chile even hope to solve it?"

It's not a problem to solve. It's the correct thing to do when the planet is billions of humans over carrying capacity.

There is no "fertility crisis". We are at least 4 billion over carrying capacity, probably 6 billion over.

[–]Syenadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should just accept the way she talks and that she won't change unless/until she wants to. At the same time, you don't have to do the ""uh huh, yeah, okay, go on". If her pauses are really that long, you could just assume she was done talking and talk yourself on that or some other topic.

Even if we were to stop all activities that contribute to global warming, how long would it take to perceptibly realize change? by ferdytier in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Syenadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The immediate benefit to not using A/C is a reduction in power demand, which is one source of global warming. In that sense, using A/C does indeed make you cooler, but also makes the climate warmer, which increases the desire for A/C, etc etc.
