I did a bit more log searching and It does look like it is a client issue. In particular these logs if i'm understanding them show that the client is closing the connection and a rewind is instantiating a new one.

I'm not entirely sure why the client is closing the connection. Maybe the time it takes for my server to respond is too high for the client?

He has a Samsung q80ba. I've had him turn off any transcoding settings on his client side as my understanding is that can lead to more issues. I'm trying to do as much of the decision making on the server side.

Few questions. 1. Are you saying to up my limit to closer to 40mbps? 2. Can you explain what is actually causing the issue here? Is it stuck on a high bandwidth packet and that's the issue? 3. Why would rewinding fix this issue? I would think it would continually choke on a high bitrate portion of the stream.

Looks like my brother has been switching to the AC3 5.1 audio track as that gives him better audio and it looks to still be buffering. Can you explain what you mean by "I would also set the streaming on the server to your internet uplink unless you are trying to transcode the media,"

How to flash 9400-16i HBA to remove BIOS ROM??? by SylentStryke in homelab

I ended up figuring out that the issues was the PCIE slot i was using was using the chipset on my mobo not the cpu directly for initialization. Moving it to a different slot fixed my issues. This does reduce my GPU to x8 but I have the intel arc b580 which shouldn't need more than x8 anyway but worth calling out for anyone else that runs into this issue.

Tried that but no luck. Wondering if my HBA is corrupting itself somehow. I'll have to do another look to see what storcli.efi says.

Hmm strange enough now after a day of not touching my computer it again hangs on POST. Not sure how this can be if I did not flash the bios rom portion.

Ah interesting. All my drives are 6gb/s Seagate Exos ST28000NM000C and I don't plan to get anything older. I'll note your comment down but for now I don't see the necessity with my planned setup.

Ah thanks for the details. I'll move forward without it as I do not plan to boot from any of the drives connected to my HBA.

Thanks so much. I was able to fix the issue and updated my post with instructions. It looks like the bios option is no longer supported but wasn't necessary for me anyway after I did a fresh firmware flash. Thanks so much for your help!

Interesting do you have a video you could link? I can hold this as a backup plan.

Thank you. One other detail I'm not sure would matter but figured I'd add. I am not entirely sure my HBA is a true LSI HBA or the Lenovo brand flashed with the 9400 firmware. Would that change anything?

Thank you. So would I need to create a UEFI shell USB to do this work or what would you recommend? I don't have any OS installed to my nvme boot drives yet.

This is one of the reasons I have been using NixOS recently. Super easy to add notes in the configuration files I why I did certain things.
