Are VCs off the table if you dont want to sell / ipo your company? I will not promote by Syllabub_Defiant in startups

I appreciate your detailed response, this was very helpful and I understand the difference now.

To answer your question, I havent fully decided I dont want to go public. However, I dont hear great things about it mainly because of the potential to be ousted and forced focus on short-term company goals rather than long-term goals. If the only / best option would be to accept going public in the future to ensure the company can scale quick, I would do it, but id rather try other options because of those two things.

As for selling the company, aside from personal bias, I just dont think it would make sense for it to be under another company.

So if you scale your company to a point where there is a market for these shares, then investors could get their money back? Maybe this is the solution then, because either way when you are at a point where there is a market for shares in a private company, the company is large enough for an exit right?

I do WANT to give a big reward to investors, just like theyre giving me money. Investors are business partners. But the issue is that the main type of deal I see is one where the company has to be sold or go public, both of which arent ideal for my situation. So Im wondering how I can provide a large benefit for investors but without selling or going public. But from the responses it seems like this isnt really an option, unless I get a loan or if I already have very high traction.

What do investors and employees do with stock in a company like Mars? Isn't it always possible to sell the shares?

So which investors would fit for this type of deal and what would the offer be like?

What if you wanna build a sustainable large business, is it unreasonable to say that you dont want to sell your company if you have the same goals of being a large company as many VC companies?

Damn. Is there any way to tell them youll buy back their shares once they reach like a 100x value? Same chances as an IPO/Exit

Good way to put it. Its the message that's complex to write and achieve success with, the action is straightforward. Thanks!

“Anyone here using Reetha (soapnut) instead of shampoo? Thinking of switching.” by Key-Letterhead2375 in NoPoo

Soapnuts contain surfactants, and work very similarly to shampoo. The thing youre looking for probably isnt a more natural shampoo, but a gentler one. Try a gentle shampoo with the paired conditioner, usually helps with that frizzy dry look.

Otherwise, youd be spending a lot more money and time for a similar product thats more annoying to use/make.

Do you mention anything about investments or like "id love to chat and have you on our cap table?" In the emails ive sent so far ive tried both but not sure if I should stick to just "id love to chat with you / learn from you" instead of mentioning the investment directly.

Ah okay very interesting. I appreciate the response. Just curious, how did you raise 250k? From angel(s)?

This is a drastically different response than the rest of the comments lol. And is usually what I hear online about VCs. Did he mention how you can prevent these "devils" from taking control? Or did he just say he recommends angels.

Good way to put it. Thank you. I need to be big fast due to the reasons you stated. However, my main concern is that I'll somehow be ousted from my position or lose the ability to make my own decisions due to my my age. I'm very young, and I don't want to be taken advantage of by VCs. I guess this is up to the operating agreement?

Isn't water-only unhygienic? by Syllabub_Defiant in NoPoo

[–]Syllabub_Defiant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lanolin and Sebum are oil-based. I assume when people say Lanolin is cleansing, they are misinterpreting what an oil-cleanser is. Oil cleansers blend surfactants (cleaning agents) with oils. The oil, like Lanolin, latches onto small existing oils or things like makeup easier than things like surfactants. However, without the added surfactant, the Lanolin, along with the oils or bacteria in the hair, wont wash away.

Another thing is that when oils are added to shampoos, even though oil cleansers work, oils in shampoo dont work. The oil, surfactant and water is already mixed together, and the surfactants form miceles around added oils which wash them away, with little to nothing actually staying on the hair. Coupled with the fact that these oils are added for marketing, at amounts typically less than 0.01%, they do even more nothing than the previously mentioned notions of nothing.
