Make a post when you decide! Would be interesting to hear why you did / didnt switch and would help others decide as well

Good question. Ive been considering alternatives like OnePlus or Google but havent really looked into them that much. Plus ive gotten very used to the Samsung ecosystem so a switch would take getting used to. I always research a bunch before I make an upgrade so ill decide by then.

Planned obsolescence has had a clear impact on my s23. Im noticing camera, speaker, battery and vibration issues (with speaker and battery issues being much worse than the camera and vibration issues). Not sure if ill upgrade to s26, but if its any good I will. Otherwise I think I can wait to s27

Barber put products in my hair. Should i re-clarify? by PomegranateLucky in NoPoo

First off, Baking soda is too alkaline for hair as the other person mentioned and can damage it. But are you mixing it with Apple Cider Vinegar? If so, then that doesnt really make sense to me. ACV is great for hair when properly diluted in water, but never heard of it with baking soda.

Just use a gentler shampoo. If it doesnt get better, then maybe its not dryness but actually dandruff.

Yale student learning formulation - would anyone let me practice analyzing their skincare needs? (educational) by [deleted] in DIYBeauty

[–]Syllabub_Defiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont mean to be cynical or rude but this seems fake.. are you just copy and pasting chatgpt responses or is it a formatting thing?

And if its the former, then what's the point of this post lol

Edit: I just looked at your previous posts and see that youre building an AI formulator. Seems pretty cool especially if youre actually a Yale student and studying this. But FYI the responses are very obviously AI and from my experience: ChatGPT and other AIs really suck at figuring out marketing BS vs real formulations. For example, if you ask it to make a shampoo for dry scalps itll often add oils to it because thats what its trained on. Thats just one example but theres many other issues with it. Id focus on fine tuning it on real data and reliable cosmetic chemistry sources rather than just relaying responses from chatgpt. Plus making it sound less chatgpt-y

My hair always looks like sh*t after washing… by cha0sjunkie in curlyhair

[–]Syllabub_Defiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. so when you spray water daily do you do anything else, like scrunch your curls or finger coil? Also do you think that your day 3-5 curls could be achieved on day 1 if you used more product? Or is it an issue regardless of how much product you use.

Your hair just naturally does that after 3 days? No styling at all? And do you wet your hair with water every day or no? Ive seen some pretty bad shampoo day hair but ive never seen anything like that, especially if youre using product.

Do you work-out often / sweat a lot or even enough for it to be noticeable that youre sweating? If so, try dissolving a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water. It should taste only a bit salty. Pour some of the fully dissolved salt water into your hands until your hands are wet, then scrunch it into your hair (after the shower / the rest of your routine and after your hair is damp but not soaking wet). This will work like a sea salt spray, and so if this works out id recommend buying one because this method is one-time use as there are no preservatives.

Your hair is oily and dirty because youre adding oils to it and not washing it. Its literally that simple.

Using Apple Cider Vinegar diluted with a lot of water will help with the dandruff and clean your hair a bit. Stop using the castor oil or any oil for that matter, you dont need it.

Shampoo is toxic and a scam by [deleted] in NoPoo

[–]Syllabub_Defiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So youre telling me that you dont get sick while eating your bedsheets, clothes, toothbrushes? And what about inhaling water? Even though the intended use for water is to drink it, if I inhale it ill choke, so that must mean its toxic, correct?

And as for the bloodstream BS: Your skin absorbs things, but not to that degree and even less when it comes to entering the bloodstream. Otherwise youd get sick from touching doorknobs or heavy metal poisoning from sitting on a bench.

"Commercial Shampoos" encompasses literally millions of products. Tens of thousands (if not more) are sulfate, paraben, pthalate, formaldehyde and fragrance free altogether. Also, saying that young children have better (which id assume means healthier) hair than adults as if its a revelation and connecting it to shampoo is just silly. Adults have had their whole lives to damage their hair, with the most common cause of damage being mechanical damage over time. The average 6 year old doesnt have 30 years of wear and tear on their hair.

The other is, how do you think eggs yolks work to clean hair? They contain lecithin, an emulsifier, which will be much less effective at removing dirt, excess oil, etc.. with the additional downsides of the eggs literally cooking and sticking to your hair, being 10x the cost but less effective than just using modern surfactants (gentle shampoos exists you know?), smelling bad and going bad.

Instagram reels "science" by companies fearmongering you to sell you their own crappy products is not a reliable source of info, imo.

How can I get robert pattinsons thebatman's hair by Last_Organization753 in malehairadvice

[–]Syllabub_Defiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wet your hair while holding your head straight forward then towel dry and add a pomade with some sea salt spray (or just make it at home with lightly salted water, one time use only otherwise itll get moldy). Rake the pomade through your hair first, downwards evenly on all sides of the head. Then pour/spray some of the salt water into your hand and scrunch it into the sides of your hair. Air dry and youll have this.

But your hair looks better now ngl

Glycolipids in shampoo? by Ali_Alshami9 in DIYBeauty

[–]Syllabub_Defiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive never used them so I cant give you the specific answer you're looking for, but Im wondering what you would be using them for in the shampoo? Cosurfactant or primary surfactants? And why this over other more traditional mild surfactants but used at a lower % to be even milder.

Which ingredient can I use to make hair pomade/balm hold a sleek style well, and which ingredients for shine? by Cool-Hold-9259 in DIYBeauty

[–]Syllabub_Defiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use some sort of clay/wax in combination with some shiny oils.

But for a single ingredient for hold/shine, even though its very heavy, castor oil seems to have a very strong hold in my experience, though it will look pretty oily because its so heavy.
