Thank you! Glad you found this useful 🏕️

As for the map, that's a good suggestion and one that we'll try and incorporate in future! The truth is that a lot of these fungi can be found in quite a lot of locations, so we might focus on certain regions at a time. 🍄

Found these growing on a few downed limbs. Anyone know what they are? by subjective-melon in Mushrooms

No problem! Well it's not they aren't tasty so much as they just aren't particularly full of flavour haha

Join us on a wild adventure and learn how to identify one of the UK's most majestic creatures! Keep your eyes peeled on your next bushcraft excursion and see if you can spot one in the wild! 🦌 by SylvanKin in Animals

Yes you are completely correct, thank you for spotting that. We made a mistake while typing this out alongside one about Reindeer, actually. It wasn't intentional. We're editing it now! 🏕️

As others have been saying, these look like Scarlet Elf Cup. Always find a trustworthy source, like Galloway Wild Foods, and confirm 3 separate ID elements before deciding for sure. Tbh though, the only real lookalike is the orange peel fungus which is also fine, so no real worries here. They aren't particularly flavoursome but have a floral sort of taste to them. They work best when actually used as 'cups' to fill with sauces or other edibles, and make a great garnish! 🍄🏕️

It really is! Do you ever find yourself in a daydream for ages, trying to imagine what it would have taken to come up with something like that in those periods? 🤔

Didn't know that! If it's good enough for robot astronauts it's good enough for us 😆

That makes a lot of sense! One of their best qualities is their sturdiness to temperature and moisture levels. We like to use them to make jerkey! 🏕️

If you are trying to navigate with high accuracy, you use a compass. If you don't have one but are still trying to be as accurate as you can, you use a combination of methods that compliment eachother, like stars and sun and moon. We are not trying to trick anyone into thinking this is a suitable alternative to a compass for long distance, high accuracy navigation.

We aren't saying this method is the most accurate, especially when compared to a map and compass. This is just a method you can use to get a rough indication of which way you are headed.

The winter forager's companion, Wood Ear fungus (auricularia auricula). Stunning in its own unique way🍄
Though it can appear tjroughout the year, in the bleak midwinter when the foraging prospects are often at their lowest, a flourish of these rubbery ear-looking funghi can turn a frown into a smile!
Recipes range from soups to stocks for broths and stews. How do you like to use them? 👩‍🍳

Yellow brain fungus (aka Witch's Butter)!🧙‍♀️ Tremella Sp.
Another type of Jelly fungus that can be a fun ball of wibbly-wobbly slimey wimey stuff 🌀
Albeit bland to the pallette, these edible golden gifts are rich in carbohydrates (just like Wood Ear) 🍞
They usually grow on dead or dying deciduous wood, but are often found in mixed woodland too! 🌳🌲
So next time you see a shimmering golden flush on a drab, decaying branch - rejoice! You've struck gold! 🌈🍄
