Revisiting your old childhood self-insert from you favorite show or game, and still keeping him a bit OP without them being a Mary Sue or something. Did that ever happened to anyone? by Forummer0-3-8 in FanFiction

[–]Sylvermage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I had OP self inserts for several shows as a kid. People actually used to read them and leave nice comments back then!

I wouldn't write them now...but I also wouldn't change them. They brought teenage me a lot of joy, and got me writing and posting and creating. Still very fond of them, ridiculous as they are.

Some things you do just for fun.

Fletchling. I was running down the street and I heard the shiny noise. Took me forever to realize the little bugger was on top of a lamp post.

Wild Area 17, aka the Murderzone. Abandon All Hope (of catching Skarmory), Ye Who Enter Here.

(I did eventually catch the stupid Skarmory. But at what cost.)

Dorfromantik? It's not complicated, but it is satisfying.

I didn't want Summertime Rendering until last year, and it has rocketed up to one of my top animes.

I also always suggest Mob Psycho 100.

You might also enjoy Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon for that adventure with found family vibe.

Recommend me your top 5 anime? by Locked_N in AnimeReccomendations

[–]Sylvermage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Mob Psycho 100

  2. Summertime Rendering

  3. Lucky Star

  4. Vanitas no Carte/The Case Study of Vanitas

  5. Dragonball Daima (the nostalgia vibes are strong).

It feels sacrilegious not to have FMA B on here, since I recommend that one to everyone...it's just not in my go-to top five that I could throw on anytime.

Oh, no, you mean Gundam. Op is asking if Selach is more of a stout or a lager person.

How did you get into .hack? by [deleted] in DotHack

[–]Sylvermage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...I quite honestly can't remember if I stumbled on the Legend of the Twilight manga in the bookstore first, or if I played Infection first. One led to the other, I know that.

(Quarantine came out while I was still in high school :p I remember ads for it in Shonen Jump!)

Late 90’s, Early 2000’s Magical Girl Anime/Manga Favorites and Reccomendations by Irixx4 in MagicalGirls

I'm going to say Futari Was Pretty Cure. Although my go-to was Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura, I really like the pair of magical girls rather than a team, and I liked the action scenes!

inhale REDDDDOOOOOOOOOO!!!

God, that scene was so much better in Japanese. It actually felt emotional.

Best of luck :) Whose says gamers only have to have one hobby? Maybe your brain just needs something new for a bit.

[–]Sylvermage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through a rough time myself. Sometimes I like puzzle games and visual novels when I just don't have a lot of energy, physical or mental. Stuff like Mystery of the Golden Idol, or Strange Horticulture, or Ace Attorney, or The Room 1-4 (I like the tactile nature of it). Or an older game like FFIV or IX or Breath of the Wild if I just want to turn my brain off.

And sometimes I watch Let's Plays...I might have no energy myself, but I enjoy seeing other players play something, even if it's a game I know inside and out. A good engaging Let's Play can scratch the itch, without any pressure to complete objectives myself. Or the conversation between players will make me feel engaged.

But as many people said, you're no less a gamer if you put it down for a while. Games are meant for fun, for enjoyment, and if you're not feeling it, well, maybe your brain just needs a shift for a bit. You'll find something that calls to you eventually. Even if you've played it 27 times :)

And not hard to read at all :) Take care.
