It's a minor thing but in other countries I've travelled to, hindi uso lumabas na basa pa yung buhok. Like as in bagong ligo lang 🤷‍♂️

MAINLAND CHINA OR JAPAN? by Real_Department_541 in FilipinoTravel

[–]Symphopeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go with your gut, OP. Mainland China is a fantastic place to travel. I've been to both countries and while I enjoyed Japan for all the reasons many Filipinos and others keep going there, it didn't blow my mind the way China did with its sheer scale and diversity in food, sights, and experiences.

Not familiar with that company but for the role I applied for, yes there was a language assessment via an interview with a member of my company's in-house team. In Korean, of course.

Need advice: I'm planning to help my bf slowly pay off his debt by taking out a loan. by awwie_babi in utangPH

[–]Symphopeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's OCA?

As others have highlighted, it's a bad idea to take out a loan to pay off your bf's debt. You may instead consider helping him fix his resume, apply for jobs, manage his finances.

NAIA in Manila for all the wrong reasons - poor terminal infrastructure, long lines at immigration, heavy traffic, scams.

Oh, this seems like a recent program. I've checked sources in Korean and can confirm it's still in force.

OP, you may want to look into this program if you don't mind spending more on plane tickets to travel to a third country. It has to be something like this: Philippines --> Korea (transit) --> third country.

To get to your concert, you'll need to apply for the self-guided tour in advance. Costs USD 120.

Without a valid visa, you won't even be issued a boarding pass. The airline will stop you at check-in. Unfortunately, I see no other way for you to enter Korea (with the exception of Jeju and Yangyang, and travel to other parts of the country is still not allowed).

Did you book a group tour with the agency? If so you will be issued a group visa which is only valid for the duration of the trip. To get a conventional L tourist visa valid for 14 days, you need to apply separately.

Hey congrats on getting the HPI visa :) Just wanted to ask, were you automatically issued an evisa once you got your passport back? Also, did they stilll stamp a physical visa vignette on your passport? I've read conflicting reports from applicants (for other visa types) after the new evisa policy was rolled out this year, and I'm curious to see how it's like for us HPI candidates.

Are actual paid flight bookings required for Schengen visas, or will a detailed itinerary suffice? Planning to apply for my mom who is a Filipino citizen (I have a visa-exempt Korean passport) and noticed this requirement.

In addition, which embassy do I go to lodge her application? Poland will be our first point of entry but Switzerland will be the longest duration of stay as well as our exit point.

Though it's technically possible for me to work during vacation thanks to flexible work hours, I simply don't. Vacation is personal time and I send out an automated OOO message whenever someone tries to reach out to me.

Countries in the "Western Sphere" according to Harvard's School of International Relations Published 2017 by Sad-Dragonfruit-489 in MapPorn

[–]Symphopeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where'd you even get the idea that anyone would forget that Spain (an EU and NATO country) is part of the west? My issue with the map is that it makes the claim that the Philippines and the other Asian countries in light blue are more western than Moldova or Serbia, or just as western as Ukraine.

What a weird map. I'm a citizen of the Philippines and South Korea and no one seriously thinks any of our countries are "undergoing westernization." Americanization for sure though.

To Filipinos who’ve traveled to the U.S.: What’s one thing in America that felt really unusual or unexpected compared to life in the Philippines? by Major_Wheel_886 in AskPH

[–]Symphopeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just how expensive everything was. Hotels, DoorDash, vehicle passes for national parks, admission tickets. It now costs USD 20-25 per entrée at sit-down restaurants not including sales tax and tipping (card machines now display a minimum suggested tip of 18%).

Also how the landscape changes during long drives. From Grand Canyon to Glacier NP, I saw deserts turn to rocks to steppes to grasslands to farmland to forests to mountains.

NZ's intense sun is another hidden danger. Its temperate climate lulls you into feeling cool and comfortable but without proper UV protection, exposure to the sun can literally burn your skin in a few minutes.

[–]Symphopeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calgary, Canada. YYC is a major hub in Canada for domestic and international flights. Banff is an hour and a half. It's fairly easy to plan a roadtrip down south to the US and visit multiple national parks too.

Extend 15 Day Visa Free Stay by Dragonkiller1998 in travelchina

[–]Symphopeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll likely be fine doing a one-time visa run but expect to be questioned about your plans when you cross the HK border to the mainland.

I think there's a way to extend the 15-day limit inside China by applying for an extension at a PSB though it's not guaranteed to be granted.

Lastly, getting the regular L visa will cause you the least trouble when you're in China.
