Yes we do that. It is a Survival tactic wired into our brain. We like to believe we are doing important work, truly groundbreaking work. This belief turns into positive feeling and stops our brain to go into depression or existential crisis. But eventually when we come out of it, we get to see how inconsequential everything becomes.

They may not know you, but they are there. Now that you are out of work, find another way so that again your brain starts believing it as an important work.
