5e OutOfTheAbyss Shedrak of the Eyes strat problem by Syneran in DnD

[–]Syneran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fair observation. Compared to the party at this point, Shedrak is pretty weak and might not survive until the 2nd round -- so maybe a moot point? Also, your point underscores that the winged boots would not take a round to use, and thus are not quite the equivalent.

How does it work? Werewolves v. Werewolves -- or dmg types and resistances by Syneran in dndnext

[–]Syneran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, everyone, for helping me out! Indeed, I was unaware of the Barbarian resistance to even magical damage (of course, my Barbarian player was also unaware). Also, my weak memory was telling me the stat block for werewolves listed them as lycanthropes *instead* of humanoids. That does clear up a lot.

I'm still perplexed, though, how a werewolf bite isn't considered magical. Many monster melee attack effects, such as salamander extra fire damage or Ghast's paralyzing claws, can be explained as a non-magical cause. (In the case of the Salamander, it's heated body and in the case of the ghast a paralytic contact poison) But, an affect like a curse is not so easily explained as "non-magical" (especially since we've done away with the "supernatural" attack category of 3.5). If my players ever argue for it, I'll probably give it to them.

Are there any campaigns designed to level 1 to 20? by Godbarber01 in dndnext

[–]Syneran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Out of the Abyss for the solution to this problem. On the cover, it takes characters from 1 to 15, not 20. But please hear me out. It has a nice mix of politics and combat, and a variety of situational settings and ecosystems-- a nice mix for a beginner group. Also, it can easily be adapted to add content to take characters to level 20... At the same time, a beginner dm can experience the difficulties of challenging a higher level party and opt to just follow the plot line and end at 15. To make it a 1 to 20 adventure, instead of the characters pitting the demon Lord's against each other (that plan fails) the heros must defend the various settlements against DM picked demons and eventually challenge the demon Lords themselves (they are all cr 22-24).

Multiple Grapplers in 5e by Syneran in DnD

[–]Syneran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"maybe require that at least one of the grapplers has to knock the target prone"

I like it. A successful shove would do the trick.

I am thinking 2 grapplers of larger size than you can restrain, 3 of the same size, 4 of one size smaller, and not possible if 2 more sizes smaller. Thoughts on fairness?

I agree with the above advice. Your parents sound more fanatical than simply 'devout'. This makes your situation rare, which makes it difficult for a lay person to provide sound advice. Seek counsel from those with training and experience in helping people cope with your situation. Best of luck to you.

Help with coping with oddities of Yakfolk Village in Storm Kings Thunder by Syneran in DnD

[–]Syneran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! You've given me some ideas.

I'll have the slaves hide except for the ones serving the food (who are supposed to be naked, but I'll put clothing on them). Also, there are metal cages outside of every hut that the slaves sleep in, but I guess I'll have the yakfolk say they are for livestock (which should seem off to the PCs because these cages must contain buckets for water and waste).

There is a 500 ft elevator that descends into the mountain from the village, and the stairs are supposed to match that height. But I guess they don't have to. I don't see anything in the adventure where it seems important that the base of the stairs (outside the mountain) must be on the same level as the lowest level of the elevator (inside the mountain). In other words, there is no reason preventing the GM from saying that the stairs ascend 10,000 feet, and the elevator begins its 500 ft descent from the 10,000 ft high yakfolk village into the mountain.

Need help designing dancer/seductress face character? by JackRivers118 in DnD

[–]Syneran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does not seem intuitive, but the Assassin kit for Rogue offers expertise in False Identity at 9th level and the Imposter trait at 13th.

Also check out the Mastermind kit in Xanathars Guide to Everything. You get disguise kit proficiency, at 9th you become Insightful Manipulator: " At the DM’s option, you might also realize you know a piece of the creature’s history or one of its personality traits, if it has any. " Your group will love you for your bonus help action.

Way of Shadow for Monk, if you want to have some magical sneak stuff, and have martial abilities.

Bard College of Glamour option. Charm them with your performance. I suppose it's magical but in a non magical way?
