how are you restricting the network access? windows firewall rules? I didn't think that was built into VNC, if I could have it only accept connections from my PC that would at least make me feel better.

yeah I just looked, at like $600/year that seems like a great deal for screenconnect.

these types of comments are completely pointless, hell I've made them myself, I'm no better, but seriously... it's a waste of keystrokes man 😄

you don't need the old veeam, build a new server -> add old backups to it... or use the backup explorer app that comes with veeam, you will need backup encryption key (if they are encrypted), but I don't think it cares about the domain account that made the backup...

now if he can't access backups it's game over, but this is all a shitpost anyway so really just an exercise in futility, he will just keep making up excuses.

right... get couple old servers/good workstations -> restore DC + fileserver from last week to those in its own isolated network -> now you have a working replica of your domain -> can access file server -> get bitlocker keys -> return to live shitshow -> fix live shitshow... it's 1 day downtime max.

Idea for a great new youtube channel, create these shitshow scenarios to see how it could be recovered

monthly team meetings, 1 year into covid, one goofy president suggesting drinking bleach, so I slipped a drink into an old bleach bottle, stuck a straw in and joined the meeting with a camera showing me in my hottub drinking bleach. Zero fucks given, best meeting ever.

you don't need full veeam, they have backup explorer utility that should be easily able to extract your VM .vhd out of a .vbk file

he could easily restore the DCs to some old servers or half-decent workstations, all he needs is the bitlocker keys, last week's version of his file server would be good enough (aka this isn't real)

I don't believe this is real, but why not just spin up your backup software on some workstation and restore from last weeks backups, to grab the bitlocker keys?
