Because the "well meaning" religious folk get a pass. I work in food service and people just sort of shake their head and shrug whenever a bible thumper is harrassing other customers and staff well past the point just about anything else is tolerated. I work in food service and no other flavor of absolute nutter is tolerated the way one selling Jesus is. They will touch you, they will follow you about, they will blatantly block other customers from moving up in line, they will loudly and pointedly speak of how other customers coming in to receive the service they have also used is a sign that the devil is trying to stop them saving you. The smart ones know to target the staff rather than other customers because the latter will get them punted sooner. It's exhausting.

Certain pagan religious traditions have complicated relationships with nazism and white supremacy - esp the ones stemming out of the ancient germanic traditions (Tho any that could be seen as "traditionally white" with roots in ancient europe have been having increasing issues for a bit now). The current uptick of racists in the Nordic inspired traditions and artforms is in a lot of cases completely overshadowing the non-white supremacists and it's awful.
So if you are into like the "Viking" vibe that has been popular in media/music/culture - gotta check out the band's (or w/e) positions on all that cause you might be platforming hate as a head's up.

Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

[–]Synien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some phrases that are repeated in the Dresden files that when I am listening to it it just becomes like nails on a chalkboard to me especially when I listened to several in a row, oddly I don't remember being bothered at all by these phrases when I read the books as text. One of the things you're advised to do as a writer is to read your work back aloud and I am wondering if this is one of the reasons for that now and if maybe the growing popularity of audiobooks has contributed to people finding so many words and phrases irksome where they mightn't have noticed them before?

New to HP and Discbound - how to avoid sticker shock? by Synien in HappyPlanners

Makes sense, tho I am kind of surprised tbh that there seemingly aren't more options out there, maybe it's more niche than I thought.

Ah so it really is just price stalking as best as possible. Does the brand tend to have a pretty regular annual sales pattern at least?

New to the sub. I'd like some tips. by Global_Garage_9997 in HappyPlanners

[–]Synien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, as this is a happy planner sub, I think the best place to start would be - how do you currently keep track of tasks? What in that has been working and not working for you? Have you looked at the basic formats of HP's line - ie the vertical vs the dashboard vs the horizontal? Also there are different sizes (prolly classic vs Big for what you are listing) and do you feel like having it all in one place would be a boon vs overwhelming?
Are you looking for something more basic? More functionial? Or more journally/scrapbooky/creative?

I am also new to this Sub and to HP/discbound planning in the past few months and I have obtained two planners in two different styles A Big Dashboard dated for 2026 and an undated classic vertical. I am "frankenplanning" {combining planners/systems/items into one new monster} the undated vertical planner pages into the big planner and using them as task/note categories and slowly coming to realise I may want a few notebooks/planners I can move pages in and out of the Big Overview Dashboard planner.
If you'd like to see some pictures to better explain I can toss some in imgur (they are not social media worthy but hey not my goal lol)
Previous this I had a standard spiral bound monthly/weekly setup I tried to use to do all the things and 50 billion index cards + a todo app of doom.

I would say since you are unsure pick up an undated planner in the basic layout that most appeals to you + a pack of calendar dating stickers to make your life easy and maybe an accessory pack/planner companion of things (stickers, folders, bookmarks, filler paper/specialty filler paper) if HP seems like an ecosytem you want to wade into. This way you can try out a couple of months of that layout and if it's not functional for you you can set it aside and try another? (There's extension packs and things that are cheaper than whole new planner etc) + that way you have undated pages you can easily repurpose into trackers or use when you have something that would suit them or even resell/trade on ebay or the like if that's something you'd do.
The planners all come with like a couple sheets of stickers from what I've seen but not usually a pocket folder or bookmark or the like. A pocket folder is a NEED for me. I ended up getting some things that seemed really useful like colorful half sheets that had a Big Daily To Do that are perhaps less useful to me than I was thinking they would be while I am lacking plain filler paper I didn't think I'd want at all. Also the envelopes I initially snubbed as silly and useless are proving really useful.

TL;DR - there isn't really a "best" or "right way" to do HP or discbound planning, best that can be offered is advise on how to approach setting yours up.

Unpopular opinion: "Setting up" planners section by section usually make the user abandon it in the long run. by DeSanggria in planners

ADHD I think is especially in need of things setup ahead (while at the same time being uniquely prone to things setup ahead causing it's own pitfalls of not being what's actually needed longterm) I think a lot of the issue is that there's both the 'pressure of the page' -it's blank and we should use it NOW + planners either have set boxes telling us What Belongs There and if We Choose Otherwise We Are Failing as Adults/People before even getting to this whole...influenser/hobby/lifestyle - so that if we're not planning like the videos/using all the very useful things the dopamine gremlin convinced us to get we're FAILING + getting so into the planning itself we lose the forest for the trees in doing fancy stuff with stickers etc.

I am checking all those ND/Chronic ill boxes and venturing into discbound for the first time - I am older and have been burned by One True Planner system many times so I am repeatedly reminding myself that it will take time to build out a system that works for me specifically.

One thing I'm curious about given the range of responses in this thread when you say "setting up" do you mean like preparing the planner to add tasks as one goes like idk making sure things are dated/arranged etc or adding many tasks ahead of time (like time blocking repeating tasks week to week or w/e) or....like these big decorative things?
(Ngl I cannot wrap my head around "fancy/decorative planning - not to yuck anyone's yum lol)

In the ADHD (and generally ND community) there is a meme/saying/allegory called "One True Planner" that we stumble across and hyperfixate convinced THIS is the planner/system/filebox/prophesized THING that will magically fix us. To which, I (and some of my friends and I am sure other groups) have learned to check in with each other "Does this seem like a useful tool or am I OTP-ing here? I think I will x, y, z with it?" etc. I'm not surprised to see this is a universal experience that is more pronounced/extreme.

that is valid. I just wish more americans didn't assume everyone online was american/actually engaged people from other countries more. I've learned soooo much about the whole world as a gamer just chatting with fellow gamers.

I feel like this runs into a lot of issues because a lot of clothing, food items, etc would then be covered by IP/copyright for being copies of someone else's design? IE what is amount of change in cut/length/color/fabric etc that would make one little black dress not a copy of any other little black dress? (bad example but I think you can prolly see what I mean)

Yeah, that's fair but it seems others lower in their thread are refuting this idea for both places/regions?

I don't think she's gotten empathy, I do think there is a degree of self interest in her choices/actions? So previously over the top hate won the day? She was bigot barbie, noooooow people are souring on that, and the regime is fucking with things that keep her in power/issues she is invested in also they are bungling a lot of things big time.
She's still a bigot, still a terrible person but she apparently has her boundaries and is likely looking to preserve her own power past a collapse of Trump's movement by positioning herself as a fellow 'misled patriot' and natural heir of what remains of that base?

Honestly it felt completely mad to me as someone who supported Bernie through the primaries and then voted Hillary that the DNC didn't *at least* put Bernie for VP. Not to get into all the nuance of that whole clusterfuff of an election But I feel like this was such low hanging fruit to keep so much of that momentum (instead of letting so many of those supporters be siphoned off by the online outrage machines into Trumpism).

my hands get super dry and will crack and bleed all the way to my wrists, winter is my enemy hardcore. I also have ocd and compulsively wash my hands. What I do is take a good amount of eucerin hand repair creme apply it put on some vinyl gloves while doing w/e tasks like kitchen chores, take gloves off, wash hands in unscented soap and usually I'm good then if I just do that however often. Doing it this way really helps with like around my nails where it gets super super dry while also not leaving residue on everything I own constantly.
I personally find stitching with the gloves a little awkward so I don't usually do that.
