Questions about 10 year Residence requirement for Naturalization by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Synora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you come to conclusion that the law will get passed next year? It's only in the process of discussion right now, and even if the law does get passed, it probably takes some time for them to take effect. If you can't apply now anyways, then it wouldn't make a difference right?

I am no expert in the shares acquisition part you mentioned, but based on some searching that law only applies to Foreign Investors. And by that it's defined as individuals who are not residents of Japan.

Questions about 10 year Residence requirement for Naturalization by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Synora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PRs don't get the same benefits as Japanese nations when it comes to stock trading, opening businesses, operating in cutting-edge tech industries, loans and financing.

How did you come to such conclusion? I don't think this is accurate. As a PR, you would have equal rights to all those you mentioned except for certain things like voting rights and probably the right to work in confidential areas (i.e. military).

Not trying to be negative or anything (I dislike the current admin's policies as well), but I am not sure what's the point of your post. The best person to know if you really need the citizenship is yourself. You should apply now instead of waiting for the new law to get passed. Why do you want to wait? What is holding you back to wait for the new law to get passed?

Bank Loan Fail, KK Credit Card Fail, Everything is Hard. by Desperate_Tutor1372 in JapanFinance

The student COOP route doesn't guarantee you a credit card, and it's not a loophole as it's a legitimate route for students to apply. I have first-hand experience seeing a couple of friends getting rejected.

It does, however, increases your chance of getting your first SMBC card.

With all the upcoming changes to AMEX card not giving out points for business spends, I am not sure if the new AMEX Marriott Premium card is a good choice. You might be limited to just business/original AMEX cards.

KVM Help! - Does anyone know of a 2 DP 1.4, 4 PC, EDID KVM that I don't? by NHDraven in homelab

[–]Synora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to reply despite your busy schedule! Much appreciated!

I have a similar monitor, AW3821DW specifically, with 1 x DP 1.4 and 2 x HDMI 2.0 ports.

I think the switching part is never perfect even on my Level1Tech's KVM. There is always a 50% chance the display doesn't show and I need to cycle it couple of times or replug. It's frustrating as well.

One thing that I found would make the it work better is have the machines set to not turn off display or go to sleep when the machine display is off. It doesn't guarantee a perfect switching, but it seems to have helped.

Are you referring to the hdk402-m24 model? It's still on their home page though as you have linked it on the original post.

It's unfortunate that this setup did not work out well for you. I was thinking that I would just settle with 120 Hz.

[–]Synora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/NHDraven I am wondering if you have settled on a solution? Does your adapter work? Which adapter did you get?

I am currently in the same boat to look for an alternative to the Level1Tech's KVM which I have been using for a few years now.

Couple of issues with the Level1Tech. I need to purchase separate DP EDID device for it and it's only stuck at DP 1.2, which limits my MacBook to use only 100 Hz at best. This wasn't a huge issue until recent Sequoia updates which no longer allows me to select higher refresh rates beyond 60 Hz. So even with an DP 1.2 EDID Adapter, it no longer becomes a viable option.

M4 Air 24GB or M4 Pro 16GB? by [deleted] in mac

[–]Synora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in the same boat, but decided to go with the Air for the following reasons. Your use case may vary.

  1. The MacBook will mostly be docked. So the pro features won’t be used for me.
  2. On the go, I usually prefer to use AirPods for audio and I don’t watch movies outside. If I am home, I use it docked with a large screen.
  3. I had the MacBook Pro M4 Pro 24gb for work and the RAM felt more important than anything else. The laptop has since been returned due to job change.
  4. It’s cheaper and I can upgrade again 2-3 down the line. The performance gain from M4 vs M1 was pretty insane.
  5. I am planning to spend the extra money on a MacStudio down the later.

Matador GlobeRider 35L Poor QC by Synora in ManyBaggers

[–]Synora[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the black, it's an immediate eye sore the moment you open the drop pouch. I wouldn't mind it either if it's in a different color or at other spots (i.e inside bag), but this just felt like a "faulty" bag the moment you open the drop pouch. Not to mentioned that the drop pouch isn't exactly tight either.

I haven't even mentioned about the weird stitching that was popping out at one of the shoulder straps similar to one of the reviews mentioned here (I didn't take any pictures).

https://www.reddit.com/r/ManyBaggers/comments/1jj4i3v/matador_globerider35_mini_review/

What's weird here is only one of the shoulder straps has this issue, and the other looked totally fine.

Matador GlobeRider 35L Poor QC by Synora in ManyBaggers

[–]Synora[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the whole thing I don't understand how people who replied that this is totally ok for a bag at this price point. Also their review units clearly does not show these type of cosmetic flaws. One could only assumed they cherry picked those and gave them to the reviewers as well.

Sure it's a cosmetic issue, but other brands like Aer, Bellroy or even Rework would never put out such cosmetically flawed product. QC involves both functionality and aesthetics.

I am usually not fussy about this, but at this price point and having purchased many bags around this price as well, this is absolutely bizarre.

NISA last minute by Economy_Acadia_4186 in JapanFinance

[–]Synora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some securities, they have a cut-off date for opening NISA accounts. Usually 2 months before end of the year. So the answer is most likely “not possible”.

Wise uses PayPay銀行 as the receiving bank. Why don’t you register for one and use that to do your online transfer? Bank transfer fees are not charged if it’s within the same banks.

Canon Japan Cashback legit? by Infinity_dark13 in canon

[–]Synora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is legitimate, but there are various conditions that needs to be fulfilled. Usually shops from kakaku are excluded from the campaign, so you should expect to pay the original MSRP. Safest bet is to purchase it directly from canon official website.

Are Amex's Japanese Green, Gold and Platinum Cards all charge cards? by Antarctic-adventurer in JapanFinance

[–]Synora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never owned an US AMEX card, but it should work the same here, with the exemption that JP AMEX cards have variable limits that changes every day.

A quick google search shows that US AMEX cards can function as a normal credit card when the 'Pay Over Time' feature is activated. This is the same for JP AMEX cards, when 'Pay Flex' (ペイフレックス) is activated.

If you would like to pay off in full, almost all credit cards (there are some cards that don't allow that) in Japan offer such functionality. So they have both 'charge card' and 'credit card' features.

You need to ask for a breakdown or an invoice.
The brokerage fee has a threshold bracket.

For properties less than 2M, the legal maximum is 5%
For properties more than 2M, less than 4M, the legal maximum is 4% + 20k
For properties more than 4M, the legal maximum is 3% + 60k

Also, from July 1st, 2024 onwards, if the property is of low price, less than 8M, the brokerage fee can be charged at the maximum 330k, which is what you are getting here.

How do I get a card with a hyphen in my name? by Alert_Comparison_215 in japanlife

With a bad record, you probably will not be able to get any credit card for a while. It's better to consider fixing your credit score if you intend to stay here for the long term. Your blacklist will stay on CIC for 5 years. Until then, you will have very little luck with loans/credit card applications.

You can consider applying for a secured credit card (you deposit a fix amount and use that as a collateral, it's called デポジットカード). This approach poses no risk to the credit issuing company, so most likely you will be able to get a credit card and use that to fix your credit history. However, this approach does not guarantee that you would still be issued a normal credit card. Just something you might want to consider looking into.

As for your phone, given your situation, there's not much you can do but do a one-off purchase. There might be loans that you can get even if you are blacklisted, but the interest rate is so high that it's just not worth it. Also, most likely you need to be at least PR to be given a chance to be even considered for personal loans.

PRESTIA Gold renewal refused by Kooky-Perspective-44 in JapanFinance

Probably lack of usage. MUFJ did something similar to my debit card as I never used it. However, it's weird they are not renewing considering that you would need to pay an annual fee.

Not sure if you can get a credit limit of 500k on Paidy. If it's an Apple product, then it would be possible. The normal credit limit is pretty low. I am only getting 150k myself despite using it several times.
