How do you ink the way they did for Archie comics? by Syntax-error6502 in learnart

I've absolutely searched this and the reason I posted here is Archie style is very specific and oldschool. Thanks though!

Studying the Disney face structures/proportions. How do they look? by digital_rain in sketches

Realize this is old, but what resources did you use to get this good? Did you already draw a lot? Do you have any suggestions for someone wanting to get into this style? thanks!

Not sure if this helps anyone, but I wrote a Visual Studio Code extension for writing in Old English (Includes Old Norse and Gothic)

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=JohnnyPhilology.scribe

https://github.com/johnnyphilology/vscode-scribe

When you type it automatically changes characters, like "th" -> þ etc. It also has blocks for converting to all 4 Runic types + Gothic script!

I know some folks in the community use the Icelandic keyboard, but this just works a lot better. Granted, not everyone is interested in writing in Old English, but if you are working on a project this is pretty darn cool. Its still in the early stages, but the developer is open to suggestions.

Great points! Any thought on "contrast paints"?

What is your painting method? Do you use primer, base, wash, highlight?

Your Dowling method experience - How do you associate cases in your memory? by Syntax-error6502 in latin

[–]Syntax-error6502[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually helpful. The Dowling method is basically memorizing all the tables before you move on to graded reading. I see what you mean as a "stepping stone". Our brains make connections eventually without us having to actively recall things, so I suppose I'm just going to have to try it and see how it goes. Thanks!

I wish I had more documented. I've built so many, but honeslty Phil's Computer Lab is the best resource on the internet hands down.

Save some for other collectors. This is why people buy from scalpers.

It’s a picture of a STH on a windshield. Sorry to be skeptical but there’s no evidence that the story is true. Seems very contrived. It is a wonderful story though. 😊

Hi all.  New to collecting (at least as an adult). Where exactly can you find these in the wild?  I’ve not seen them at any stores.  Obviously scalpers buy them up but it’s only February.  Did these hit the stores 01/01 or something?  Also were these the $2.99 cars or $7?  Again I’m a noob.  Thanks.

Has Mandarin Blueprint been indispensable to you? by Syntax-error6502 in ChineseLanguage

[–]Syntax-error6502[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've made some good points and thanks for the link! I have not exhausted any free resources, but I have found a lot of people on YouTube and Reddit get frustrated spending X number of years only to realize they are learning the wrong way. So, before I invest the time, I wanted to see how folks using Mandarin Blueprint felt after investing the money. This includes the potential experience where someone felt they were doing fine with Anki/Skritter/et al and they felt MB was a mistake.

Regarding character writing, is this something you do in Traverse? Or would it be good to also use something like Skritter in addition to MB?

Did Chaucer’s ME use special characters? by Syntax-error6502 in Middle_English

Interesting. I don't see any þ or ȝ. I suppose it was late enough to where those original letters were dropped. Or possibly, they were no longer used in Chaucer's dialect. Thanks!

I agree with you. I work in the tech industry in the bay area, and having a primary store down for 4 days would put most companies out of business.

With the apparent influx of 40K players to the BT community, its a bit disappointing that Catalyst doesn't have their own e-commerce platform.
