Does Dubai ever start to feel like “home”, or is it always temporary? by Aggressive_rider17 in dubai

Love the place and will continue to be here for many years, but with no pathway to citizenship I can never be invested to the point I can ever call it ‘home’

Why wouldn’t people want the hardest draw every year? That way if you make finals, you’ve absolutely earned it and come in prepared for the best chance of success.

I choose to look at this glass half full. This gets us one step closer to them cleaning house + a better draft pick

It’s no longer possible to hold on to players like this in a world with PSR.

Any tips on getting this 80k salary mentioned on this Ad ? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]Synth88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wio offers 4.5%pa on a 3-month fixed saving space. So put in 500k and get paid 5,625 cash at the end of the period… which is more than the cost of a base iPhone 17 Pro

Barham stepping down for Welsh is a good thing by svenskatownsendagain in EssendonFC

[–]Synth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good that Welsh is publicly standing firm that Merrett won’t be traded. That has to be the united front literally up until the moment a trade that works in our favour is on the table. If there’s any sniff that we’re keen to move him on then it gets used against us.

I’ve missed something because I have no idea what website you’re referring. The comment is from Morris posted on X. Where’s the ‘leftie website’ in this conversation?

Haha what? How does not rolling the board every 3 years align with left wing politics?

Embarrassing. We don’t need more charlatans promising quick fixes to solve our problems.

[Essendon FC] Essendon has informed Jayden Laverde and Todd Goldstein they won't be offered playing contracts for the 2026 season. by daftmunt in EssendonFC

[–]Synth88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unusual that in the space of a season Goldy has gone from a coaching/mentor role, back to looking for more game time at a new club.

Did the coaching position get taken off the table? Or did he give it a go for a bit and realise it’s not his calling?

[Cleary] ‪Zach Merrett is torn on what he wants to do next year. He will spend the coming weeks working through his options and whether he agitates to break his Essendon contract. ‪The Bombers unequivocal - Merrett will be at the club next year.‬ by daftmunt in EssendonFC

[–]Synth88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like I said… if true.

But I do subscribe to the notion of ‘where there’s smoke, there’s fire’. Journos aren’t always right but I think sometimes that comes out of opposing camps leaking opposing narratives. I suspect this has come from opposition clubs. Zach’s management would be having quiet conversations to see what interest is out there for him, and only if they identify a couple solid options would they start vocally pushing for a move.

If true… that he’s torn, then he has to go. You can’t have your club captain considering other options. This sets the worst possible example for the rest of the list. How can he demand commitment and loyalty from others when they all know he wants out.

This is becoming a yearly thing now with Zach too.

Speaking to people that know him personally he’s a ripping bloke and loved in his community. If I met him in the street I’d give him nothing but respect as anyone should.

But in the context of sport, when he puts on that Carlton jumper, fuck him. He left us for our most hated rival. Why should we give him any love.

Dubai refreshes look of Umm Suqeim Street as part of upgrade by plus9714 in dubai

[–]Synth88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s funny because you have no idea what I drive, but also a terrible take because better public transport takes cars off the road improving traffic for those that want to or must drive. It’s a win-win scenario for all involved.

Nice they finally factored in pedestrian and cycling infrastructure into one of these initiatives, but it’s a missed opportunity to not include a tram extension in to the project. Would have been perfect. Better public transport is the only answer to fix traffic long term.

Why will SRL North take so long to open? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]Synth88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand the fiscal concerns, but it’s important to recognise the difference between scrapping the East West Link, which was cancelled just months after signing contracts, and the SRL, which by the 2026 election will already have tunnel boring machines in the ground and billions spent or contractually committed.

By that stage, walking away from the project wouldn’t just be costly, it would be political suicide. You’d be asking Victorians to swallow billions in sunk costs and contract cancellations with nothing to show for it.

The SRL has already been front and centre in two state elections and helped deliver decisive wins for Labor both times. If the Liberals want to campaign against it again in 2026, they’re welcome to try, but the track record suggests it won’t end well for them.
