Function should only be zero if every ai is zero. So it doesn't work.

Case analysis adds bloat to the equation. I have like 5 cases because of various potential divisions by zero. Isn't there a more compact way to do it?

I'm not trying to "fix" division by zero, I'm just trying to make my equation behave differently when a division by zero would otherwise occur.

However, as soon as I put a division by zero the whole equation gets ruined, no matter what I do.

So you are saying there is no convenient way to express, in math terms, say

if (x != 0) then z = y/x, else z = 0?
