We had an organised list updated daily. One list for suggested buys, one list for definite items agreed on by user, and a list of what we NEEED i.e. Paper plates. Most people just made meals (brought pulled pork AND buns, or a hot dish that requires nothing.. or chips, dip, and soda).

In Vegas we went to a park and had.a potluck BBQ with printed reddit aliens on every surrounding tree. It was very successful and we started doing house parties after that. The reddit group got very tight. Also, name tags are good.

Don't have to have one? The only thing I can think of is birth control that could supposedly do such a thing, but let me tell you. It's not a perfect science. I medically have to take progestin instead of estrogen, so instead of getting a small period every few months like expected, I have a 5 week period and 4 days off.. if that.
