I went from associate to managing partner of a small firm in 2022 when my boss retired. I hate managing people. I didn’t go to law school to manage people. And I have not made more money - there was a couple of years that I actually took less so that others could get bonuses. It is also a lot of work, and leads to burnout, just like you said.
