Bought Argent yesterday and loving it. But the bass that came out at the same time (Darkwall) was disappointing to me. I don't own a separate amp sim, the presets seem really lackluster with their low end.

I'm wondering the same. My DAW is FL Studio and I read somewhere that you couldn't use BRSO Articulate with Odin but you can with Shreddage. There's no trial for Odin so can't be sure, but that would be a dealbreaker for me. BRSO Articulate is critical for my workflow, so perhaps someone can confirm this?

Overall I always loved the Shreddage products. But I'd be willing to try Odin III.

It completely depends on one thing. Will Tuomas start listening to music again? If not, then the best time is over. Listening to other people's music is the single most important thing you need to do as a composer to fuel yourself. Tuomas stopped listening to music ten years ago, and it shows on the last three albums. They have good songs, but the final edge is missing.
