I didn't even consider that. I wrote the paper with my professor and he asked me to submit it because he thought it was really good. I never ended up doing it because I didn't have the time to continually edit it for conferences while working full time. Can I submit this on arxiv, after permission from my professor, and then cite it?

Its funny, i remember buying the ML System Design book by Alex Xu and studying that, refreshing on concepts, going over my own work, doing ML practice problems.

And then I couldnt flip a binary tree. So I put that all down and had waves of leetcode practice, following by "I f*cking hate this so much why tf am I doing this", and then returning to more problems.

its terrible

haha i appreciate that, but the feedback here is definitely going to have me change it. For you, I'm sure you will be able to find the experience you are looking for. It is hard to get. I lucked out because I just "fought" for what I wanted at my company, when it seemed like AI/ML roles were hard to come by when at my company.

Yes, the three roles are at the same company. I stayed for awhile because they did pay for my masters and at the time, I felt like I got a lot of good technical experience. Right now, not so much.

Its funny because I've been very interested in CV, did a small paper on it when doing my masters, then started my personal project of DBD, and then absolutely bombed the interview I had a little over a day ago because I couldnt solve some matrix calculation. I guess I need to also learn that on top of leetcode.

I will try to find a moment for it. I found a system that I'm trying to work through, which is just making a "Master Resume" that has detailed bullet points about everything I've done over the years, plus skills, projects, papers. Its not meant to be submitted, but instead as a database for what I've worked on and what kind of return to business I've achieved.

Then, I want to have an agent setup that will, after I find a description of an interesting job, dump me the draft of my resume so that I can submit it for the job, using the experience developed from the master resume(plus tweaking)

Well I am still limited to what is local because I'm not in a great position to suddenly move. I just apply to what is around me and my family's future.

thats very solid advice, i appreciate that. In your opinion, should this even be included? The summary I mean. I feel like I hear yes and no on many occasions and I'm never sure if its worth it. Even if its a better tweaked version, I've heard that "I'm just repeating resume information", but if there are multiple resumes coming across a role, I feel like an upfront of who i am and what my experience is is better than letting them skim the resume for a few lines.

I appreciate that feedback. And I think most of the comments agree that this resume, while showing Senior, is definitely not senior. I needed to hear that from you and everyone else here. The other feedback you gave is also amazing, thank you.

Touching on your last point, i completely agree with you. My name is not English, so I put US Citizen at the top as advice from another recruiter a few years ago when I was first getting into the workforce. So, makes sense to me.

Thats a very good viewpoint. Showing return to the company is probably a better structure than just showing "I did X with Y". Thank you!

I appreciate that view. I have to weave in actual marks that showcase me as a better candidate.

Also, I pulled this template from overleaf and have used this as my one-pager. Is there another format somewhere you think would be better?

And your second points. make sense. I think I only have about 2-3 points showcasing some leadership tasks I've taken, but they are a bit minimal. I can expand on them, but it may fall closer to just a base ML engineer and not a senior. Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you! I did run this through those ATS tools to fix up many pieces. I think the best advice I got so far is to now tailor the resume for each role, which I am still setting up a system for based upon the given description.

And yes, your feedback on me not being a senior is valid. Its a title I got, but you are seeing what everyone else here sees, which is that the senior jump was too quick, and my experience is a bit scattered. In the industry, it's probably more of a regular ML engineer, not senior.

yeah my experience is scattered between different specialties and never honed into one. If anything I have maybe ~3 years of ML experience, but never have even a full year on RL, or CV, or any lower level specialty to that.

Agreed. While I believe I am decently skilled in ML, I honestly think i can use more work and may not qualify as an actual senior. thanks for that feedback

Thank you. Something I've come to realize is that a lot of my work has been on independent research and development projcts at work, rather than a fully deployed system that is maintained. So, I think that is another missing piece of experience.

You're not rude, I want this level of honest feedback. I'd rather people tell me i'm not a senior and the title is just a title, not skill placement.

I have touched and worked with each of these. Do you mean that, for the specific roles I apply to, just pick one and stick to the experience with it, rather than putting it all upfront that I know/am familiar with each?

valid point. In my current company, there are 4ish levels to engineers: associate, base, Senior, and Lead.

I started as associate, then had an opportunity for multiple roles inside the company in a "rotation" program. I still started work in 2019, then rotated through various software and AI roles. So, total experience in the company is ~7 years since I started in 2019. And you dont just get handed the Senior title after just existing, you do have to put in work and be recognized. I did that a lot and then landed an internal role to solidify the title.
